RAILROAD LINES IN ST. CROIX COUNTY.
Resolution # '066 (ej)
WHEREAS, the Chicago and Northwestern Transportation Company presently
operates a railroad line in St. Croix County from Hudson through Wilson, run-
ning in a general east and west direction; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago and Northwestern Transportation Company has filed a
plan of re -organization with the Interstate Commerce Commission, Washington, D.C.,
on July 27, 1983; and
WHEREAS, included in the proposal for re -organization is abandonment of
approximately 1,000 miles of Chicago and Northwestern and Milwaukee Road railroad
track in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Missouri; and
WHEREAS, included in said proposal is the abandonment of 59.3 miles of
railroad lines in St. Croix, Dunn, Chippewa, and Eau Claire Counties in Wisconsin;
and
WHEREAS, within St. Croix County, said proposal included the abandonment of
the Chicago and Northwestern railroad lines and stations between Roberts, Hammond,
Baldwin, Woodville, Hersey, and Wilson; and
WHEREAS, such abandonment of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad lines in
St. Croix County would cause a significant economic impact on various industries
and businesses, including the agricultural industry, manufacturing industries, and
other industries and businesses which use said lines for transportation of goods
and products; and
WHEREAS, in addition, it is felt that new industry may decide to locate in
locations served by railroad lines rather than locate in areas where such railroad
lines have been abandoned, thus depriving St. Croix County of future economic
benefit and property tax base.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors,
meeting in regular session, that the County Board strongly disapproves of the proposal
for abandonment of Chicago and Northwestern .railroad lines within St. Croix County,
and elsewhere; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that St. Croix County do everything legally possible to
cause the proposal for abandonment of said railroad lines to be amended so that the
railroad lines remain operative within St. Croix County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this resolution be immediately
forwarded to all Legislators, both state and federal, serving St. Croix County, and
in addition, to Governor Anthony Earl, for their respective assistance in causing
the proposal for abandonment of said lines to be amended.
Submitted this day of October, 1983.
