Also present were: Sandy Gehrmann, Tracy Davis, Renea Aeschliman, Gladys Ellefson, Sylvia Heller, Shirley Marlette, Julie Hillstead, Diana Fern, Bette Norman, Bob Jacobson, Donna Lamson, Marcia Chandler, and Dianne Rhein. Excused Richard Peterson and Esther Koosman. ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by John Mortensen and seconded by Gerald Peterson to adopt the agenda as printed; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2005. ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES A motion was made by Irene Burch and seconded by John Mortensen to approve the minutes; motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Aging & Disabilities Resource Center RFP: Sandy and Tracy attended a meeting on Tuesday. On Tuesday morning the County Board unanimously passed a resolution to apply for the grant. The Baldwin Resource Center will be doing the planning portion of the grant. The Aging office will remain the same since we already have an aging resource center. The Resource Center would then focus on the younger disabled. Council on Aging Page 1 03/04/05 The ACCESS Grant in amount of $20,300 has been awarded to Department on Aging. The grant will begin December 1, 2004 and end September 2005. Retirement Planning: Sandy handed out a memo addressed to the Administration Committee along with the resolution passed by the County Board. A motion was made by John Mortensen to accept the packet information that will be presented to the Administration Committee. Motion was seconded by Alice Mullan; motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: Steps to a Healthier Aging: Sandy presented a packet of information on a health promotion that the senior centers can participate in. Each center can tailor the program to their participants. The packet contains a CD, reproducible brochures, log books, and other items. The programs will be a center activity to increase community awareness and attendance in addition the health promotion. FRED (First Response Emergency Data), Dick Bourn: Mr. Bourn presented information on a program that he developed to help seniors and loved ones keep vital information handy and up to date. The program is called FRED (First Response Emergency Data) and comes in three forms. Vital up to date medical /health information can be kept in your wallet, glove box or the medicine cabinet of your home. FRED is a membership program that will allow the members to have their information updated annually or as needed without leaving their homes or having to write the information themselves. Applications and other information will be left at the Department on Aging for those that are interested. Sandy said that it would be okay for Mr. Bourn to present the information at the senior centers if they feel the participants would benefit Council on Aging Page 2 03/04/05 from it. Center Board Coalition Meeting: Tracy and Phyllis Chapin, treasurer of the Senior Center Board Coalition, presented information to the Council regarding the St. Croix Valley Community Foundation. Tracy and Phyllis met with members of the Foundation in September. The purpose was to see what that organization detailed and what resources were available for seniors in the county. The St. Croix Valley Community Foundation offers grants available to 501 -CIII programs, establishes a foundation fund, and manages endowment funds. Partnering with this organization can produce visibility and a new resource. Smoke Free Work Site Campaign: Geralyn Karl, St. Croix County Public Health, approached Sandy regarding a clean air indoor air resolution for the city of Hudson. Geralyn asked Sandy to approach the Hudson Center Board to be a part of the resolution. A motion was made by Irene Burch to support a resolution to make all indoor work place buildings in Hudson smoke free. The motion was seconded by Buzz Marzolf; motion carried. STAFF REPORTS Sandy's Report: Sandy handed out a summary sheet from the Wisconsin Health and Family Services Bureau of Aging and Long Term Care Resources survey. The survey covers a time span from October 2001 through July 2002. The survey results will be helpful when working on the next three year plan for the Department on Aging. Tracy's Report: Tracy will be presenting a van policy regarding road conditions and drive ability at the next council meeting. SITEXENTER REPORTS Council on Aging Page 3 03/04/05 from it. SITEXENTER REPORTS Council on Aging Page 3 03/04/05 BALDWIN A Christmas party is planned for the 22n of December. A light tour is planned for the evening of the 16 with the possibility of going out of county. Blood pressure and fuel assistance have taken place this month. DEER PARK Christmas party is planned for the 22n of December with a special appearance from Frosty the snowman and an elf. A volunteer brunch is scheduled for December 23r GLENWOOD CITY: Bingo dinner Christmas party with lots of door prizes and a lovely dinner. WESTCap donated fruit and turkeys for the Christmas dinner. FFA donated fruit that was bagged up and delivered to the home bound. Looking to add to the exercise program. HAMMOND: The Christmas party will be today at 1:30. The site inspection by Lori is planned for December 21S ROBERTS: Bake and white elephant sale was on held December 3r The fundraiser went very well and a lot of people helped to make it a success. The Christmas party is planned for the 22n of December. In January Julie would like to start a senior night out for cards and bingo and socialization. Would like to go to other sites for lunch to meet knew people and see what the other sites look like. HUDSON Everything is going well at the site. The open house was on December 15 with a good turn out. Foot care and blood pressure are once a month going well. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus made a special appearance at the December birthday party. A Christmas light tour is planned with refreshments afterwards at the senior center. NEW RICHMOND Took a trip to Hudson to see the Octagon House and supper out on December 15 On the way home they viewed all the Christmas decorations and all enjoyed the night. Participants went to Amery to see the Memories perform in the beinning of the month. The Christmas party is planned for the 20 of December. Blood pressure is twice a month. Council on Aging Page 4 03/04/05 RIVER FALLS: The foot and flu clinics were on December 15 with Euchre as well — very busy Wednesday. Iry Heider will be leaving for the winter so the site is looking for someone to play the organ in his absence. New windows were installed at the center. The Christmas party on the 6 had 75 people in attendance. SOMERSET The Christmas party was on the 22n The site was closed for a couple of days due to no heat. Bingo and exercises are still going good. WOODVILLE Christmas dinner was on December 22 with John Torkelson as entertainment. Fuel Assistance has been this month with a good turn out. Planning on going on a light tour tonight throughout the county and possibly into Dunn with the Baldwin site particpants. More card players are needed for card playing days. VAN TRIPS: Woodville and Baldwin — Dunn County — December A motion to approve the van trips was made by John Mortensen and seconded by Irene Burch; motion carried.
