April 15, 2004

CALL TO ORDER Council chairman Rich Peterson, called the
meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
ROLL CALL Members present were: Gerald Peterson, Richard
Peterson, Irene Burch, Carolyn Weisenburger, Loretta Cassellius,
Richard (Buzz) Marzolf, Alice Mullan, Bette Norman and Jeanette
O'Connell. Also present were: Sandy Gehrmann, Tracy Davis,
Renea Aeschliman, Gladys Ellefson, Sylvia Heller, Janice
Thompson, Shirley Marlette, Irma Mohn, Marge Wolske, and
Donna Lamson. Excused were Dr. Glenn Hoberg, Ralph Bader,
and Marguerite Sumner.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by Gerald
Peterson and seconded by Irene Burch to adopt the agenda as
printed; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on
Thursday, May 20, 2004.
ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINITTES A motion was made by
Richard Marzolf and seconded by Loretta Cassellius to approve
the minutes; motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Mini -Town Hall Ca re * .r M tinui 117 people attended the
Mini Town Hall meeting on March 23 St. Paul's Episcopal
Church was a wonderful location. The Foraettina was given to
all who attended. The panel was well received with Dr. Kristin
Severson from Hudson, Mary Lou Smith a former Council
member and caregiver, Joan Knuesel of Family Means in

Stillwater, Amy Luther from Alzheimer's Association
Leadership Council and Comforts of Home in Baldwin, and
Angela Lunde from Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The keynote
was given by Dr. Ronald Peterson from Mayo Clinic in
Rochester who did a power point presentation on Alzheimers.
The conference was also attended by Kitty Rhoades and Sheila
Harsdorf.
NEW BUSINESS:
Medicare Road Show: A video was presented that showed
some of the changes scheduled for the Medicare program. Sue
has scheduled Road Show presentations at all the senior centers
throughout the month of May. The video will be shown along
with a power point presentation and handouts.
Senior Care Updates The program is still available, but
possibly only until 2006. The income guidelines have changed,
but the enrollment fee is still $30.00 a year per person still the
best — still the best program for most people.
STAFF REPORTS
Sandy's Reports
Reminder that the Volunteer Banquet will be held at the
Valley House on April 22
Senior Celebration will be held on the Phipps on May 26
Silent Auction will also be held.
Contact your local welcome wagon and see if you can have
meal coupons for the meal site added to the welcome packs for
seniors that move into the area. When you get the Welcome
Wagon contacts, please give the office a call.
Public Health is writing a grant for low cost tetanus shots.
Please get back to office as to the number of seniors that have not
had a tetanus shot in the past 10 years.

Traev's Report.
The order has been confirmed for a 2004 Dodge mini van to
be delivered sometime in August.
Card parties have been going really good. Deer Park is in the
lead.
On June 24 a Senior Community Forum is being planned. It
will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church from 2 :00 — 4:30.
There will be speakers on identity theft and domestic abuse within
the elderly population.
SITF,ICENTER REPORTS
RA .DWIN Easter Dinner went well. Phyllis and Dorothy make
Easter bunnies for tray favors for the dining site and for the
homebound participants. The Polka Dots played for the Easter
dinner. Looking forward to the volunteer banquet. Planning a
planting party to fill up the garden cart. Thinking of playing bingo
two days a week.
DEER PARK Card tournament went well. Happy Grannies
have been practicing at the site and have given the participants a
sneak peek at the upcoming season's show.
GLENWOOD CITY: Bingo is going well on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays. Cards are not going as well. Margaret Rasmussen's
family brought in a cake for her birthday.
HAMMOND: Had a really fun St. Patrick's Day party. Cards
and bingo are going well.
ROBERTS The site is doing really well with an average of 20
people. The food has been better and there is plenty to go around.
A birthday party is planned for April 19 for all those that have
birthdays in April. Tried a card party, but only 5 people showed
up. Bingo is planned for May 10 . May 24 the Happy Grannies
will be entertaining for the May birthday party at 1:00 p.m.
HUDSON Everything is going good. The birthday party was a
lot of fun — a clown came and made items out of balloons. Love

the garden cart. A gentleman has offered to plant flowers out the
back door of the center.
NEW RICHMOND Went on shopping trip to Amery. Planning
a fundraiser during the Art in the Park event.
R1VR FALLS: 55 Alive was on April 12th th
& 13

2:30 with 23 people that signed up and 20 attended. Pancake
breakfast will be Sunday, April 18 General meeting is
scheduled for April 27 Foot Clinic will be on April 21 Sue
Kramer will be visiting the River Falls site on May 25 for the
Medicare Roadshow. Bette thanked Sandy and Tracy for
attending the general meeting and helping to get a new dishwasher
for their site.
SOMERSET Made a profit of $542 on the raffle. Planning a
lunch out on April 30 to the West Wind in River Falls. Cards,
bingo, and chair exercises are well.
WOODVI ..F. Cards are going well. Planning a fundraiser —
salad bar luncheon — unknown as to when it will be at this time.
Women's Club will be using the senior center for Syttende Mai.
Planning a shopping trip to Hudson on April 24
