Also present were: Sandy Gehrmann, Tracy Davis, Renea Aeschliman, Sue Kramer, Gladys Ellefson, Sylvia Heller, Janice Thompson, Shirley Marlette, Irma Mohn, Marge Wolske, Dan Hansen and Donna Lamson. Excused were Loretta Cassellius, Carolyn Weisenburger, and Richard (Buzz) Marzolf. ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by Marguerite Sumner and seconded by Jeanette O'Connell to adopt the agenda as printed; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004. ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES A motion was made by Ralph Bader and seconded by Irene Burch to approve the minutes; motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Road Show Updates: Sue presented the changes to Medicare and Medicare B to all the sites in May. Sue also updated the Council on the AARP public forum in Eau Claire. Senior Celebration: The event is scheduled for May 26 at the Phipps Center for the Arts. The day will be filled with great entertainment and a good noon meal. There will also be lots of items to bid on at the silent auction. Council on Aging Page 1 09/01/04 Volunteer Recognition: This year's Volunteer Banquet honored 189 volunteers that serve in the various programs offered by the Department on Aging. The event was held at The Valley House and all enjoyed a great meal. NEW BUSINESS: Appointment of Nominating Committee: Richard appointed Carolyn Weisenburger, Ralph Bader, and Jeanette O'Connell. Carolyn was not present. The three will meet prior to the next meeting. Card Tournament The tournament for 2004 finished up on May 19 with Hudson winning for the 2 nd year in a row. Woodville placed 2 Deer Park 3 and Somerset was 4th Proposed State Reorganization: Sandy handed out a proposed Division of Disability and Elder Services Long -Term Support reorganization plan and a letter of concern regarding the plan. She then advised the Council that they should write their letters of concern to Helene Nelson in Madison who is with the Department of Health & Social Services. STAFF REPORTS Sandy's Report: A hand out was given to the Council in regarding the Wisconsin Food Security Project. Sandy and Sue attended the Aging Network Training May 13 — 15. Don Percy spoke on collaboration, public service with pride, and how difficult it is to provide public services compared to the private sector. Quality of public service is no mean achievement. "Longer living people deserved to be treated like our future selves." Flu Clinics are scheduled for the sites for the fall. Baldwin will be October 2V'9:00 —12 noon, Deer Park will be October 20 Council on Aging Page 2 09/01/04 12:30 — 1:30, and Glenwood City will be October 19 9:30 — 12 noon. Tracy's Report: Tracy attended the Aging Summit meeting on May 7 th . The Council was given a handout that listed statistics regarding the aging population. Tracy is working on scheduling an annual fire drill for the senior centers. Farmer Market program is taking place again this year. Sign up will done through the office. The number of vouchers this year will be a little less, but still be a $30.00. Tracy attended the Title V workshop in Menomonie. She briefly explained the changes taking place in the program. SITEXENTER REPORTS BALDWIN Planted flowers in the garden cart. The woodcarvers meet monthly at the site. Three trips are in the works for the seniors in the Baldwin area. A trip to Fanny Hill in August will need to use of the van. DEER PARK Everyone enjoyed the card tournament this year. The Center Board received an anonymous donation from the St. Croix County United Way. GLENWOOD CITY: Foot care and bingo are going well. Planted flowers in the garden cart. Entertainment is planned for Father's Day. One of the board members is on chemotherapy and a replacement has been put into place. HAMMOND: Everything is going real well. The participants had a great time at the card tournament. All enjoyed the Volunteer Banquet and are looking forward to the Senior Celebration. A van trip to Menomonie is planned for June for shopping. ROBERTS The number of participants has declined slightly since the opening of the site in February. The Physical Therapist Council on Aging Page 3 09/01/04 + r from Hammond would like to come and do blood pressure and discuss other issues. The Happy Grannies are going to perform at the site. HUDSON Everything seems to be going good. Have been planting flowers on the back patio. The regular piano player has moved and they are looking for someone else to accompany their sing -a- longs. The Happy Grannies will be coming in September. A shopping trip to Herberger's in June. NEW RICHMOND Tournament Day went great. In June a large birthday bash will be planned with Ole and Lena as the entertainment. The Council was informed of the site moving and the New Richmond City Council has been approached in regards to the move. RIVER FALLS: Foot Clinic has been going good. Pool is played daily with Euchre on Wednesday. Iry Hyder plays the organ on Tuesdays. SOMERSET Everything is going all right. The Kitchen Pan Handlers Band is back in action. WOODVILLE Had an open house on May 11 t '. Planned a Hudson shopping trip. John Peterson planted flowers. Betty Lynum will be out for a while for knee surgery. Jack Sampson will be coming and entertaining at the site. VAN TRIPS: Hudson to Stillwater — June Hammond to Menomonie — June A motion to approve the van trips was made by Ralph Bader and seconded by John Mortensen; motion carried.
