COUNCIL ON AGING
JULY 1 5, 200
rCALL TO ORDER Council Vice Chairman Jeanette O'Connell, called the meeting to order
jat 8:3o a.m.
ROLL CALL Members present were: Gerald Peterson, Richard Peterson, Irene Burch,
.Marguerite Sumner, John Mortensen, Alice Mullan, Carolyn Weisenburger, Richard (Buzz)
�Marzolf and Jeanette O'Connell. Also present were: Sandy Gehrmann, Tracy Davis, Renea
Aeschliman, Gladys Ellefson, Sylvia Heller, Janice Thompson, Shirley Marlette, Lori Sather,
Cindy Ahrens, Bette Norman and Donna Lamson. Excused were Ralph Bader & Loretta
Cassellius.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by Marguerite Sumner and seconded by
'John Mortensen to adopt the agenda as printed; motion carried.
I DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2004.
ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES A motion was made by Irene Burch and seconded by
Rich Peterson to approve the minutes; motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Benefit Specialist Program: Sue Kramer decided that it was too late to make the Benefit
Specialist position a County Position for her benefit. She agrees that when she retires, her
position should be hired as a County employee.
NEW BUSINESS:
Introduction of New Caregiver Support Coordinator: Nancy Sailer, River Falls, has
been hired as our Caregiver Support Coordinator. Nancy is a licensed social worker with
extensive caregiver, discharge planning, home care, hospital, nursing home and support group
facilitation experience. Her most recent position was Director of Program Services for the
Alzheimer's Association Minnesota -North Dakota regional center.
SAMS update The 6 month report was run for the fiscal year October 1, 2003 to September
30, 2004. Some individuals have yet to fill out intake forms to be entered into SAMS. Site
!managers are to add up all totals on the attendance sheets.
STAFF REPORTS
Sand3's Report:
Sandy informed the Council that Marge Wolske is resigning as Site Manager from the
Roberts Senior Center.
Sandy handed out an Aging IQ Test to the Council. The test was to see how much we all
know regarding aging.
The Council was given a copy of the Hatch Amendment. With the upcoming election we
kneed to be aware of the rules and regulations for those that are county employees. The
handout gives an overview of permissible and prohibited activities for covered federal
employees.
Sandy handed out information on Social Security Privatization and Research on Abuse in
Later Life for Council to look over at their leisure.
Laura Rebhan, New Richmond Senior Center Board President, and Sandy met with four
members of the New Richmond Knights of Columbus to discuss issues regarding the Senior
Center. All correspondence should be in writing between the Knights of Columbus and the
New Richmond Center Board.
Tracp's Report:
Fair posters are to be in the office by Wednesday or at the fair building by ii:oo on
Thursday. The theme is the Colors of America.
The site vans can be used if there are participants that would like to come to the fair. The
vans must be at least half full.
SITEXENTER REPORTS
BALDWIN August 9th Jack Sampson will be entertaining at the site. The volunteers for the
fair are scheduled. Fire drill is planned for next week.
DEER PARK The center board meeting was held yesterday. Would like to plan an out of
county trip within one month — destination has yet to be determined. Lots of food is being
I made and catered out.
GLENWOOD CITY: Board meeting was held yesterday and they were going to check on the
fire drill requirements. Bingo and cards are going good. The fair poster is finished.
HAMMOND: Everything is going real well. Bingo, cards, and birthdays are going good.
Fresh veggies have been coming in thanks to share the bounty. The poster for the fair has
been completed. A trip to the SPAM Museum is planned for August 27h.
ROBERTS Everything is going good. Patriotic yard stakes were made and it went really
well, planning to make fall stakes. A small group has started to come in and play cards.
HUDSON Everything seems to be going good. Last week the participants went to the
Kinnickinnic Nursing home to visit a gentleman that used to come to the site. A wonderful
birthday party took place with Ole and Lena entertaining the guests. The flower garden is still
being worked with beautiful results. UNO has been the card game of choice lately.
NEW RICHMOND A picnic is planned for August 24th at the Star Prairie Park.
RIVER FALLS: The foot clinic is going marvelous. Iry Hider has been playing his keyboard
at the site. Mike Traynor has set up a satellite site office at the Manor. An open house is
scheduled for September 16th.
SOMERSET Exercise and bingo are going good. Lettuce has been dropped off as part of
the Share the Bounty program. Picnic is planned for July 21St at Camp Somerset with the Pan
Handlers as entertainment. The lunch out is planned for July 30th with a Trolley Ride in
Stillwater.

I WOODVILLE : A trip is planned for July 28th to the Petereson Farm to see the flowers and
listen to a band. Cards and bingo are going well. Martha Mabis visited last month. Foot care
will start if enough people sign up.
