CALL TO ORDER Chairman Rich Peterson, called the meeting
to order at 8:30 a.m.
ROLL CALL Members present were: Ralph Bader, Richard
(Buzz) Marzolf, Gerald Peterson, Loretta Cassellius, Rich
Peterson, Irene Burch, Marguerite Sumner, Bette Norman,
Jeanette O'Connell and Alice Mullan. Also present were: Sandy
Gehrmann, Tracy Davis, Renea Aeschliman, Gladys Ellefson,
Diana Fern, Sylvia Heller, Cindy Ahrens, Shirley Marlette, Dan
Hansen, Janice Thompson, and Donna Lamson. Dr. Glenn Hoberg
and Carolyn Weisenburger were excused.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by Gerald
Peterson and seconded by Ralph Bader to adopt the agenda as
printed; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on
Thursday, September 18, 2003.
ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES A motion was made by
Ralph Bader and seconded by Marguerite Sumner to approve the
minutes as printed; motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
County Fair: The fair was well attended and very successful
for our programs. The Faith in Action raffle made $1327.00,
$840.81 in regular sales for Faith in Action, $90.00 in cookbook
sales for the congregate program and $211.51 in popcorn and

juice sales for the home delivered meal program.
Farm City Days: This year the event was held at the Mitchell
farm outside of New Richmond. Shirley & Gordon Grinley
headed our booth for the day. They distributed information and
sold items for Faith in Action and the Senior Dining Sites. Faith
in Action took in $186.50 plus $35.00 in cookbook sales.
Leadership Training: The training will be held on Wednesday,
September 24 at 9:00 with registration half hour prior. The
training will be held at the Phipps Center in Hudson. Staff is to
attend and the sites will be closed for that day. Staff will be
paid for the training. Please have registration forms in the week
prior to the training.
NEW BUSINESS:
Budget: Copies of the budget were handed out to the Council.
Last year the Department on Aging received $125,608 from the
County. This year the request is $140,922. The increase is in
salaries, not operations. A motion was made by Gerald Peterson
to accept the budget as presented and then seconded by Richard
Marzolf. The budget was passed unanimously by the Council.
Ham /Roberts Dining Site The Roberts Park building is
currently being remodeled to house a Senior Dining Site which
will be open on Mondays and Wednesdays in 2004. The site
will run with volunteer help and meals will be catered. Ralph
Bader made a motion to support the opening of a Roberts site.
Motion was seconded by Irene Burch. Motion carried.
STAFF REPORTS
Sandy's Report Sandy informed the council of an upcoming

meeting with Long Term Support and Turning Point on September
2 Sandy asked if the council still felt that agencies, individuals
and companies need to go through the office /council before going
out to the Senior Centers. Richard Marzolf made a motion: Any
solicitation or speaking engagements at Senior Centers first go
through the Office on Aging to be forwarded to the Council on
Aging for its advisement. The motion was seconded by Gerald
Peterson and was passed unanimously by the Council.
Sandy went through the 1 St half of the year's site statistics.
Sandy handed out an article from the New Richmond News
regarding a position opening up for someone to coordinate senior
activities in the Hammond area. Discussion followed.
Tracy's Report: Site inventories were put in the site boxes to be
completed and turned into the office as soon as possible.
51 people attended the trip to the Art Barn in Osceola and
then ate at Trap Rock Inn in Dresser on Friday, August 22n
Cell phones for volunteer drivers to check out will be
available at the Glenwood City City Hall, Baldwin Community
Building, Department on Aging in Hudson and a yet to be
determined location in New Richmond. Emergency
Communications of St. Croix County donated used cell phones for
911 only.
SITE /CENTER REPORTS
BALDWIN Blood Pressure and Bingo has been going well.
Planning a Bake Potato Supper in October for a fundraiser. Also
planning a trip to Pepin to see Harry & Thelma in the Woods on
September 13 th .
DEER PARK Enjoy the new van and would like to use it some
time in September or early October to go to Albertville. 11 people
attended the trip to the Art Barn. Massage therapy 1 day a week is
going good. Sanitarian will be coming in 2 weeks. Veggies have

been coming in frequently.
GLENWOOD CITY: Things at the site are going well. 10
people went to the Art Barn. The sanitarian visited the site and
was quite please and will be contacting Sandy at a later date.
Veggies have been coming in from local growers. A soup and
sandwich luncheon has been planned for October. Bingo was
added on Tuesday mornings as well as Wednesday afternoons and
more people are attending lunch on these days.
HAMMOND/ROBERTS All activities are going well. Blood
pressure is being done twice a month. On September 10 a
catered indoor picnic will be held. Share the Bounty veggies have
been coming in.
HUDSON: Everything has been going good with puzzles, good
music, and bingo. August's birthday party had entertainers from
Zion Lutheran Church youth group and their puppets. A brown
bag lunch is planned for sometime in September to Spring
Valley's Handy Andy Park. There will be no blood pressure for
the next couple of months.
NEW RICHMOND: A retirement party for Bob Talmage was
held on Aug 20 . Bob was with the Department for 13 years. A
Leftsa Clinic/Fundraiser will be held on October 24 & 25 and
November 7 th & 8 th Classes with consist of 15 people with 1
instructor per 2 students. The class will cost $35.00 person to
cover the supplies. A large group of individuals went to the Art
Barn.
RIVER FALLS: Last months foot clinic had 25 people in
attendance and this month it will be held on September 17 The
general meeting will be held on September 30 with door prizes
and cards. The flu clinic will be held on Thursday, October 23r
from 12:00 — 1:30. The new card room is finished and open for
card games. Lots of vegetables are being brought to the site.
SOMERSET Five ladies enjoyed the Art Barn trip. The site

has been receiving lots of produce, but not from the Master
Gardeners. Exercise has been going on 3 times a week. A trip to
Osceola has been planned to go to Adventures for lunch on
September 26 th .
WOODVILLE Will be holding a bakeless bake sale for a
couple more weeks. Cards and Bingo are going well. Would like
to plan a leaf/shopping trip sometime in September. Massage will
be coming.
VAN TRIPS:
Sept. 13 — Baldwin to Pepin
Sept. 26 — Somerset to Osceola
Sometime in Sept. or Oct. - Deer Park to Albertville
Sometime in Sept. — Hudson to Spring Valley
Sometime in Sept. — Woodville to somewhere for a leaf trip
Motion to approve the van trips was made by Ralph Bader and
seconded by Jeanette O'Connell.
