eat. We took in over $2000 for the Silent Auction. A column

published in the River Falls Journal.
Staff and volunteer training held on June 3 rd was successful.
More than 60 staff members and volunteers were in attendance.
Leadership training this year will include volunteers, staff, and
center board members. The training will be held on
Wednesday, September 24 at 9:00 with registration half hour
prior. The training will be held at the Phipps Center in Hudson.
County Fair is July 17 th — 20 with a theme of "Let Yourself
Go ". The schedule for sites was handed out.
There has been a change in the flu clinics for Deer Park and
Glenwood City. The flu clinics will be Mon., October 20th —
Deer Park 8:30 — 10:00 and Glenwood City 1:30 — 3:00.
The Art Barn trip is planned for August 30 If we have at least
50 that plan to attend they will give us a special showing for the
matinee of "When the Cows Come Home ".
NEW BUSINESS:
Budget Considerations: All of the August meeting will
revolve around the budget. Sandy is requesting the same
amount in capital expense of $15,000 - $20,000 for kitchen
equipment and at least one more computer update in the office
for 2004. In 2005 -2006 looking at more looking at more
kitchen equipment and another computer upgrade in the office.
In 2006 all new computers for the dining sites. An approval was
given for Carolyn Weisenburger and passed by Irene Burch to
maintain the plan as is.
Housing Issues: Letters of support for two housing projects
were brought to the attention of the council. The first request
Council on Aging Page 2 09/08/03
was from West CAP to do a project in Hammond. The second
request is from a representative of the United Church of Christ
writing a HUD grant for a project outside of Hudson. Sandy
read a sample letter that we will send to those requesting
support. A motion was passed to give staff the authority to send
letters to housing developers.
Medical Transportation: Tracy reviewed the Volunteer
Medical Transportation Policy. The policy states that the
program provides medically related trips for those who are at
least 60 years old and have no other transportation resources.
Individuals can receive up to 20 trips per year. Tracy suggested
adding a line that states preference will be given to those who
live independently in their own residences. There has been an
increase in requests from individuals living in assisted living
facilities, facilities that have 24 hour staff. A motion was made
by Gerald Peterson and seconded by Richard Marzolf. The new
policy will read, `The program provides medically related trips
for those that are 60 and over and live independently in their
own residences.'
STAFF REPORTS
Sandy Gehrmann: Sandy presented the new version of the
preparedness packets. The council decided that it would not be
something we would need to purchase at this time.
Hudson, New Richmond, and Woodville Senior Centers still owe
for the Coalition's audit. Checks should be made to Senior Center
Board Coalition.
Nutrition policies have changed — all site managers must now be
certified in professional food handling. The Area Agency is
sponsoring a training in Eau Claire on August 21S Diana, Shirley,
Sylvia, Gladys, Cindy, Dan, and Donna need to have the training.
Council on Aging Page 3 09/08/03
Dan is going to check on another option that would not involve
that much travel and cost. The training would be paid for by the
Department on Aging.
Senior Care RX program may incur some changes, due to state
cutbacks. Proposed changes are: non - generic drugs from $15 to
$20, annual membership from $20 to $30, and the deductible from
$500 to $850.
Tracy's Report: Farmer Market vouchers are in. Some will be
given out at the site and others will be mailed out.
Food Resource brochures are available for the site managers to
take back with them. The dining sites are also designated drop off
sites for Share the Bounty — fresh produce. We have the option of
using the food at the meal sites or sending it out with the
participants.
Raffle for Faith in Action continues on until July 20 We would
like the Center Boards to either purchase tickets or sell them in the
community in which they live.
On June 12 a luncheon was held at the Croixview Site for the
Hudson card team. They received their trophy and past winners
will be receiving their trophies at a later date.
