Also present were: Sandy Gehrmann, Tracy Davis, Renea Aeschliman, Shirley Grinley, Gladys Ellefson, Diana Fern, Cindy Ahrens, Shirley Marlette, Karen Wells, Dan Hansen, Jeannette O'Connell, Lorraine Jacobs, Shannon Nelson from TurningPoint. Irene Burch and Donna Lamson were excused. ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by Gerald Peterson and seconded by Ralph Bader to adopt the agenda as printed; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2003. ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES A motion was made by Ralph Bader and seconded by Marguerite Sumner to approve the minutes as printed; motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Special Events: Volunteer Recognition Dinner went well. We served 191 meals that day. If anyone has creative suggestions for future programs, please contact the office. Council on Aging Page 1 06/24/03 Senior Celebration is scheduled for May 20 County Fair is July 17' 20 with a theme of "Let Yourself Go ". A drawing will be done at July's meeting to determine when sites will work. Tagboard is available at the office for senior center posters. NEW BUSINESS: Turnin0oint Presentation: Shannon Nelson from the Outreach Office in New Richmond explained the services they have to offer. Posters and handouts were distributed for the site managers to have at the sites and to council members for reference. Caregiver Support Annual Report: Shirley Grinley, Caregiver Support Coordinator, handed out 2002 Program Reports. Over the past year, the caregiver program has grown tremendously. Caregiver Club was started for all family caregivers. It meets once a month in Baldwin. Faith In Action provides friendly visiting and respite care. 77 volunteers provided 2,152 hours of weekly services in 2002. In 2002 there were two DayAway Clubs operating — New Richmond and Woodville. Due to the growing need, a third site opened in Hudson. Volunteers are needed at all the sites to help assist the coordinators. The fundraising went well last year. Throughout the year the Caregiver Programs offered numerous events. Conference Reports: Shirley attended a Caregiver Workshop & National Faith In Action Conference. Sue and Sandy went the Aging Network Training. Sue's training was good for Benefit Specialist. Sandy's was Theory of Caregiving and Leading. Council on Aging Page 2 06/24/03 STAFF REPORTS Sandy Gehrmann: Sandy discussed preliminary allocations for 2004. Funding will be up and down. Funding for senior dining sites will be decreasing. Senior Dining & Benefit Specialist Programs are going to need more money. The Farmer's Market program will be available again this year. 129 packets of $30.00 will be given out this year — one packet per household. Sandy handed out a preliminary outline of the program. We are taking names at the office and the program will hopefully be starting by June 10 th . Tracv's Report: Hudson won the card tournament. Trophies will be given out to sites that have won in previous years and to future winners. A case of coffee will be divided between the Croixview and the Hudson sites. On Saturday, August 20 t h, there will be a trip to the Art Barn in Osceola for a matinee show. More details are yet to come. A &H Inc. is purchasing a used van from Crawford County Department on Aging. The Department on Aging will lease the vehicle. Training for all staff and volunteers will take place on June 3r It will be held at the Government Center from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is a required training. It will be on diversity and different ability awareness. Center for Independent Living of Western Wisconsin will be presenting along with the Epilepsy Foundation. Council on Aging Page 3 06/24/03 SITE/CENTER REPORTS BALDWIN Elinor Nelson was at the site on Wednesday, May 14 Open house was held today May 15' with a harmonica and piano player for entertainment. DEER PARK Congrats to Hudson for winning the tournament. Welcome to Dan. Center Board purchased new flag for the center. May Day baskets were given the participants. GLENWOOD CITY: Card tournament went well. Bingo and cards going well. Open house was on May 14 Volunteers are doing the blood pressure. HAMMOND/ROBERTS Donna was not present at the meeting. Would like to plan a trip to Eau Claire. HUDSON: Held two birthday parties with the Music Madams from River Falls. NEW RICHMOND Cards & Bingo are going well. Held a beach party in the beginning of May. Almost 72 people attended the card tournament. Took a shopping trip to Stillwater with a full van. Karen will be leaving the site to finish her R.N. Degree. Dan Hansen will be the new site manager. RIVER FALLS: Pancake Breakfast was a success. Foot clinic on May 21S Site will now only be open for congregate meals Monday — Thursday with home delivered meals continuing Monday — Friday. SOMERSET Bingo and exercise are going well. The Langer brothers made a wagon for a raffle prize again this year for the nutrition site. Planning a lunch outing on Friday, June 20' to The Settlement Restaurant. WOODVILLE Massage starting next week. Open House was held on May 13 A good crowd attended with Lucille Lund singing and whistling for the entertainment.
