c '
fundraise in St. Croix County unless we would like to become
members of their association. Along with the letter was a check
in the amount of $490.00 which is the amount Metro Meals on
Wheels collected this year in St. Croix County. Sandy thanked
Buzz Marzolf for his letter to the editor.
Senior Safety Seminar Sandy spoke on the Senior Safety
Seminar that was held in North Hudson in conjunction with the
North Hudson Police Department. Site managers can contact
Tracy or Sandy if they would like have seminars on safety in
their communities.
NEW BUSINESS:
Fast Food: The Good and the Bad: A video on fast food
restaraunts was shown and a nutrition booklet on fast food items
was passed out.
Nutrition Month Reports: Sandy went through how the
nutrition program did in 2002. Statistics from each site were
given. All sites were close in comparison with the number of
meals served and donations received. Sandy also spoke about
cancellations and no -shows and gave some tips on what to do.
Public health will no longer provide blood pressure checks
starting in April. New Richmond, Somerset, Baldwin and Deer
Park are those being effected.
Transportation Fares: Tracy handed out the old transportation
guidlelines and discussed on how the wording will be changing:
Fare âvs- Donation. Currently the wording is donation of .50
for a one -way trip and for every stop made on made on behalf of
an individual. If the wording were to changed to Fare the
Council on Aging Page 2 05/23/03
amount would increase to $1.00 for a one -way trip and each
stop for those that do not participate in the nutrition program
and .50 for those that are nutrition site participants. Trips
outside of the site geographical range will be $5.00 a person and
the vans have to be at 1 /2 capacity for a trip. The only exception
to this would be trips sponsored by the Department on Aging
where donations would be encouraged, but not a standard. A
motion to change the wording from donation to fare and the
amounts of $1.00 for non participants and .50 for participants
for a one -way trip and for each stop was made by Dr. Glen
Hoberg and seconded by Gerald Peterson. Motion carried.
