Also present were: Sandy Gehrmann, Tracy Davis, Renea Aeschliman, Gladys Ellefson, Sylvia Heller, Janice Thompson, Shirley Marlette, Dan Hansen, Lorraine Jacobs, Marge Wolske, and Donna Lamson. Members excused were Richard (Buzz) Marzolf, Richard Peterson, Marguerite Sumner, and Irene Burch. ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by Ralph Bader and seconded by Alice Mullan to adopt the agenda as printed; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2004. ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES A motion was made by Carolyn Weisenburger and seconded by Ralph Bader to approve the minutes with revisions; motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Caregiver Conference On Tuesday, March 23r our bi- annual Caregiver Conference will be held. This year the conference will take place at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church on County Council on Aging Page 1 01/20/04 Road UU in Hudson. The Department on Aging received a grant to hold a Town Hall meeting for caregivers from AgeAdvantAge. Site staff is required to attend and volunteers are encouraged. There will be a speaker, Dr. Peterson from Mayo Clinic, a video, and then a round table discussion during lunch. NEW BUSINESS: AgeAdvantAge Report — Dianne Rhein: Dianne handed out the 2003 office assessment letter (see attached). It was very positive. Dianne also invited all to the 4 th Annual Western Wisconsin Aging Summit — "How to respond to growth ". Dianne showed a new video on Wisconsin Aging services. STAFF REPORTS Sandy's Report: A phone clinic has been set up at the Baldwin Senior Center for Wednesday, January 21 from 9:00 — 11:30. Laura Plummer, from the Center for Independent Living, will provide help for those who need adaptive assistance with their phones. Transportation will be available for individuals that would like to attend. A meeting was held between representatives from the Christian Community Home and Sandy and Tracy. Rates will be going up to $4.00 a meal. Sandy asked that the Council vote on accepting the increase. A motion was made by Ralph Bader to continue with CCH as the provider for meals at the Hudson Senior Center with a review date in July when budget is due. The motion was seconded by Gerald Peterson with the provision that the Department on Aging research other options or a different location for the Senior Center. Council on Aging Page 2 01/20/04 Council members were given copies of the 2004 AARP tax assistance schedule. Sandy handed out an article on Medicare Legislation. The article was to be printed in the SCAN also. Sandy read an evaluation letter from the Eldercare Law Center regarding Sue Kramer, the Benefit Specialist. It too, is an excellent evaluation. Tracy's Report: Tracy spoke about budgetary items for the centers. SITE/CENTER REPORTS BALDWIN A.M. coffee group is successful. DEER PARK The Christmas tree was decorated on Tuesday for the party. On the 19 an appreciation will be held. The Lion's Club made a donation to the Center. GLENWOOD CITY: A Christmas party has been planned. The steam table is up and working now. The Lion's Club made a donation to the Center. HAMMOND/ROBERTS Hammond was not present for the meeting. Marge Wolske, Roberts Senior Center, was present. Marge reported on the progress of the dining site. There was an open house for the Senior Center in which 40 people attended. HUDSON Santa and Mrs. Claus visited the Senior Center on Friday, December 19 ffi for the monthly birthday party and the Christmas Party. All the participants enjoyed the visit immensely. Music continues to be popular. Volunteers are making goody bags for the home delivered meal participants. NEW RICHMOND Christmas party is planned for today. The cookie kitchen went really well. Participants made cookies for themselves and for the residents of Deerfield. With Jeannette O' Connell's influence the United Methodist Church donated money to the Senior Center Board. Council on Aging Page 3 01/20/04 RIVER FALLS: 85 people attended the Christmas Party on December 1S at the West Wind Supper Club. The cost of foot care has increased to $20.00. Euchre is being played on Wednesdays. New officers were appointed for 2004. SOMERSET Christmas party was held Wednesday the 19 with a gift exchange and Santa & Mrs. Claus. WOODVILLE Christmas dinner was last Tuesday with Ole and Lena.
