CALL TO ORDER
Chair Esther Wentz called the meeting to order.
ROLL CALL- Supervisors Esther Wentz, Linda Luckey, and Buzz Marzolf were in
attendance. Others attending included Steve Kirt, Tom Hennes, Sara Sedahl, Amber
Perry and Joan Sprain
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: July 28, 2011
Esther and Buzz requested that the minutes be sent to them in a format they can open.
Steve had sent Joan a correction which has been made to the minutes. Linda gave Joan
her grammatical corrections.
Linda moved Buzz seconded to approve minutes as corrected. Motion carried.
Committee Networking — Alcohol and Other Drugs
Tom Hennes reported for Open Door Rescue Mission. The first student came and
stayed 3 days and left and now wants to return. As chaplain at the jail, Tom met
another woman that was looking for a faith based facility. Judge Lundell and DA
agreed to release her to Open Door's custody. She has been there 2.5 weeks.
They are connecting with others such as Faith Community who is doing a faith
works week. They helped do work for parents of client.
Open Door Rescue Mission works with women age 17 plus. Jerry Gibke, AODA
counselor from Exodus house is on staff. They provide five tracks of classes.
They conduct an assessment. Financed through public donations. Capacity is five
beds. Children cannot be residents but can visit overnight. Not initially required to
work. There are three phases: 1- assessment and planning, 3 -6 mo. 2 -6 -9 months -
deal with core issues, work preparation classes, family and social dynamic, they
have more freedom like being able to have a cell phone. Phase 3 -they save money
to move out ... then after care program. Getting word out and getting referrals via
word of mouth. Working on a web site and should be up in 2 months. Have
student and staff manual (all volunteer) are finished. Fully insured. Pay for
medicine. Potential fundraising includes Credential clothing that provides a
trailer and is transported across country. Earn between $6,000 48,000. National
development company that is willing to front money to provide 40,000 piece
mailer.
b. Amber Perry reported on Adult Drug Court — There are currently 16 with 4 -5
referrals pending. Juvenile Court is going well. Esther would like Pat Thompson,
Co. Administrator to attend Drug court. There is a Sept. 7 th graduation at 9:15.
One participant will be trained by UW Extension to be a financial coach and will
work with Joan to provide coaching for Drug Court. Amber mentioned that we
will also be offering the UW Extension Get Checking program which helps
participants open checking accounts.
Tom asked about psychiatric services available. Steve explained is funding for 22 hours
of psychiatric services: They also have 2 psychologists and a master's level psycho-
therapist and a psychiatric nurse. Community support has 6 social workers. Anyone who
is a county resident is eligible and pays based on a sliding fee. Lowest fee is $25 /month.
Fixed habitation and intent to stay in the county are requirements.
Tom is also asked for food resources such as restaurant donations. The group shared
ideas. Also looking at offering GED classes. WITC has free tutors.
Parents Who Host - Sara is attending freshman open houses to promote Parents
Who Host -St. Croix Central, Hudson, Working with YSB to coordinate. Then
Somerset and Baldwin. Goal is to create a cultural change.
d. Steve reported on Sober Support group starts in week 12 doesn't replace AA. The
group for the most part has gone through treatment and this is a testimony to the
program. They lead discussion and hold each other accountable.
2. Dates and Times of Future Meetings- Sept. 22- 3:00 PM
Tom requested that their handbook be sent to all for input.
Amber requested that her Re -entry presentation be on the agenda for September.
Buzz asked about youth representation on this committee. Sara will talk with
student groups to invite them to attend.
