Council on Aging and Disabilities - Regular Meeting - Oct 24, 2014 9:00 AM RESULT: ACCEPTED PUBLIC COMMENT* BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Nutrition Program Manager updates Kathy Sveiven, Hudson Nutrition Program Manager, spoke to the Council regarding activities held at the Senior Center throughout the year. A variety of speakers were brought in throughout the year. Many tours and trips were done throughout the year and the site is visible in other community events. Entertainment, fun, good food Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Brad Coplan, Baldwin Nutrition Program Manager, presented to the Council. Things are going well at the Senior Center, today is the Thanksgiving meal with over 100 enjoy the home-cooked meal to celebrate the season. They participated in many seasonal activities - hosted Halloween party, will celebrate Christmas with light tour and took part in the Baldwin June Bug Days parade. RESULT: DISCUSSED 2. Dementia Care Specialist Nancy Abrahamson, Dementia Care Specialist, spoke to the Council members regarding the newest program that became part of the ADRC in September of 2014. Council members were provided the brochure for the Dementia Care Specialist program. The goal of program is to assist caregivers of those with dementia through support in the home, creating a dementia friendly community, providing them information on support systems in the area. A dementia friendly community involves educating and training businesses and their employees regarding individuals who may have dementia and their caregivers. Currently, three communities have been identified as starting points - New Richmond, Hudson and Baldwin. The ADRC will be partnering with the Alzheimer's Association when doing the community training. RESULT: DISCUSSED 3. Financial Reports Beata Haug, HHS Financial Manager, presented the Financial report for the ADRC and Aging programs. The expenses for Aging is under budget and the ADRC is on track as well. There was discussion regarding presenting financial information on a quarterly basis - including Trust information, quarterly projections, and dashboards. The monthly financials will be part of the monthly meetings. RESULT: DISCUSSED 4. 2013-2015 Aging Unit Plan Amendments Tracy Davis, Community Services Coordinator, presented the County Plan for Older People to the Council. The original plan was adopted in 2013 and the current amendments need to be approved at this time. Revisions were discussed and reviewed. A motion was made by Ron Kiesler and seconded by Laurie Pelnar to accept the revisions to the amendments; motion carried. Affordable Care Act Informational and Enrollment Planning Report Information was provided to the Council members regarding Affordable Care Act Informational and Enrollment Sessions. The first session was held on Monday, November 17 where many individuals attended and some enrolled. Additional sessions will be held throughout the year. RESULT: DISCUSSED 6. Transportation Requests (Out of County/Weekend) Transportation requests - December 6 for Baldwin and Glenwood City to Menomonie; December 4 for New Richmond to Amery. Information & Assistance Update Sheet Council members received a handout with the numbers for October 2014. In October, there were ten enrollments into ContinuUs; three disenrollments from ContinuUs; four enrollments into IRIS; one disenrollment from IRIS. There were three nursing home relocations completed and one memory screen completed. RESULT: DISCUSSED 8. Pedestrian Ramps - updated handouts Council members received Chapter 6 of the ADA Best Practices Tool Kit for State and Local Governments. The curb cuts in Hudson have improved since the last Council meeting. It was recommended that a letter be sent to the City of Hudson thanking them for their quick response. RESULT: DISCUSSED 9. United Way - St. Croix County employee campaign Council was informed that the St. Croix County employee United Way campaign exceeded the goal set by the committee. The United Way dollars are disbursed throughout the county; the Senior Center Board Coalition and DayAway program receive United Way dollars. RESULT: DISCUSSED 10. Be a Santa to a Senior campaign This year, same as last year, the ADRC partnered with HomeInstead Senior Care to provide Christmas gifts to Seniors and persons with disabilities in St. Croix County. There are 60 folks on the list that will have their 'wish' gifts placed on the tree in County Market, Hudson. Gifts will be wrapped at the Hudson Senior Center on December 16 and distributed by ADRC elves. RESULT: DISCUSSED 11. ADRC - 2015 St. Croix County Service Directory Revisions and updates are being worked on currently for the 2015 St. Croix County Service Directory. The hope is to receive the 2015 Directory by mid January/first part of February. RESULT: DISCUSSED 12. Monster Mash Bash - update The 9th Annual Monster Mash Bash was held on Friday, October 31 at the Roberts Senior Center. There were over 100 folks who enjoyed chili, homemade apple crisp, entertainment and the 4th graders from the St. Croix Central Elementary. The proceeds received benefits the Senior Center Board Coalition to pay for entertainment for the day and other special events throughout the year. RESULT: DISCUSSED ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE Medicare Part D open enrollment will be ending December 7, 2014. The Benefit Specialists have been busy assisting individuals who have requested assistance reviewing their plans. ADJOURN DATE OF NEXT MEETING Thursday, December 18 at 8:30 a.m.
