APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Friday, March 20, 2015 PUBLIC COMMENT* BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Nutrition Program Manager updates Lyn Larson, Woodville Nutrition Program Manager, informed the Council of the activities at the Woodville Senior Center. UW Extension provided 'Veggie Talks' for 6 weeks; coordinated with the Zion Lutheran Food Pantry to provide pantry items to the homebound participants. Worked with Culvers Restaurant in Baldwin as a fundraiser, the money raised was not a lot, but the PR was nice. Recently received two grants - Ann Marie Foundation and Baldwin-Woodville Community Foundation. The Woodville Senior Center is currently in first place for the Annual Countywide Card Tournament. There will be upcoming fundraisers in May during Synette Mai and in July a silent auction at the St. Croix County Fair. There will also be a couple of events in the summer with creating butterfly gardens and other events. Chris Stork, Roberts Nutrition Program, provided a written report to Brad since she was not able to attend. Chris started in Decemer and has been working to get more folks and activities at the Senior Center. The goal for the Roberts site is to increase the number of participants. Foot care and blood pressure checks have been added as a monthly activity. They have had 'fun activities' at Christmas with an outing to a local restaurant, pizza party with music in March, open house in February and will host the card tournament in April. RESULT: DISCUSSED 2. Financial Reports Beata provided the Council with an additional handout explaining the monthly financial report. When reviewing the Financial report in the packet, the Aging revenue is in line with some additional dollars in levy dollars. The ADRC revenue is decreased due to the shifting of staff from ADRC to Behavioral Health. Council reviewed the dashboard information within packet. There was discussion on the actual numbers for 2013 and 2014 and looking at the projections. RESULT: DISCUSSED 3. Recognition of Sharon Norton-Bauman Sharon was not present for the meeting. She decided not to continue into her second term. RESULT: DISCUSSED 4. Council on Aging and Disabilities - member vacancy Currently there is a vacancy for a member within the target group of 60+. Applications can be found on the ADRC web page or at the ADRC. RESULT: DISCUSSED 5. Veterans Services Officer Introduction and Overview of Services Dale Cotch, VA Services Officer, introduced himself to the Council. He is a retired Coast Guard officer and has been working with Veterans for 7 years. The VA office provides transportation to and from the VA hospital in Minneapolis. They also help Veterans receive benefits, help get access at services at the VA hospital, works with Veterans widows and pension benefits, and burial benefits. The office staff are advocates for Veterans and their surviving spouses. Planning an event in June for Veterans to hear what is available in St. Croix County. RESULT: DISCUSSED 6. Nutrition Stats - 1st qrt of 2015 Council member reviewed the 1st quarter statistics for 2015. When looking at 2014, there were snow days that decreased the numbers. In 2015, there was only one snow day. The Hammond group is still meeting at American Heritage and people are attending. RESULT: DISCUSSED 7. Information & Assistance Update Sheet Council members received information March 2015 respective numbers. In the month of March there were eight enrollments into ContinuUs; one disenrollment from ContinuUs; three IRIS enrollments; one disenrollment form IRIS. The Information & Assistance Specialist along with the Dementia Care Specialist wrapped up their Memory Screen events at the local Senior Centers in April and had a good turn out. RESULT: DISCUSSED 8. AARP Tax Assistance - wrap-up The AARP Volunteer Tax Assistance season is over. The number of individuals assisted is not known at this time, however when speaking to the volunteers they stated that there was a steady flow of people at all of the locations. RESULT: DISCUSSED 9. Volunteer Appreciation Banquet The event will be held on Friday, April 24 at Ready Randy's. Council members were informed that RSVPs needed be made by the end of the day. The St. Croix Central Jazz Band will be performing prior to the meal. RESULT: DISCUSSED 10. Accessibility of St. Croix County Buildings Jim Elsbury and Brent Hunstad, St. Croix County Facitlities. Jim introduced Brent to the Council. Brent will be working on reviewing the door pressures of the all the doors within County buildings to make sure they are ADA compliant. Jim spoke on the project of installing push buttons on the bathroom doors. The project is expensive, but will be budgeted in the 2016 budget cycle to make all the bathrooms in all the county building accessible. There was discussing regarding the SCCSC building being the model for accessibility and if other entities were consulted with regarding the needs of folks with disabilities. Elsbury mentioned that if Council members have issues or concerns regarding the buildings, to contact him. The Bridge will be displaying art work within SCCSC in the future. RESULT: DISCUSSED ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE Beckman read an article in a newsletter called BenSpec Beats regarding Mike Traynor assisting a client receive a refund from a nursing home. He informed the Council that two Girl Scout Troops in Hudson donated boxes of cookies to be given to the Home-Delivered Meal participants. A thank you note was read regarding Kelly Weber and her assistance. Memory Cafes will be starting in River Falls within the next month. The YMCA in Hudson and a location in Baldwin will be next locations. Training of local businesses on How to Create a Dementia Friendly community has started. Upcoming Events Announced: Spring Fling to held on Thursday, April 30 at the New Richmond Senior Center Final Affairs seminar to be held on Thursday, May 7 at WITC in New Richmond ADJOURN DATE OF NEXT MEETING ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
