BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Financial Reports
Bob Mittet, Assistant Finance Director reviewed the March 2013 Financial Report.
Discussion on financials related to the Shaffausen trial. Brinkman requested a report of
expenses related to the trial, Administrator Thompson agreed to provide when the trial
financials are complete. Chairman Larson expressed his appreciation of the security and
job well done during the Shaffhausen trial.
2. 9-1-1 Center/EOC Project Update
Director Swetlik reported replacing the existing Audio Recorder is included in phase II of
the project. The existing equipment records the 9-1-1 lines and radio. The proposed 48-
Channel 9-1-1 Audio Recorder would allow the main phone lines in the Sheriff's office,
Jail and Booking to be recorded. The vendor providing the equipment is currently
offering a promotional opportunity which would bring a cost savings of $18,312.75, if
purchased now. Discussion on initial and annual costs. Swetlik will go ahead with
ordering the equipment.
Administrator Thompson reported a meeting was held with Pierce County to discuss the
possibility of a joint 911 center. The outcome of the meeting was both County Boards
will entertain a resolution to authorize a feasibility study. A resolution will need to be
presented at the next County Board. Public Protection committee will need to meet and
discuss the resolution and be ready to present to the County Board.
3. County Administrator's Pay for Performance Smart Goals for 2013/2014
There were no goals presented for discussion. Chairman Larson reminded the members,
suggested goals were to be submitted to him. The deadline is to have the suggested goals
to the Administration Committee Chairman by May 20th.
4. Appointment to Community Justice Collaborating Council
There is interest expressed by several members to serve on the council. Discussion on
perhaps a short presentation from each interested candidate and a member is then
appointed via motion. Presentation limited to a three minutes presentation from each
candidate. A special meeting of the Public Protection Committee will be held on May
24th or May 31st.. The absent board members will be contacted to see what their
schedule allows.
ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE
Sheriff Shilts informed the committee the state Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee while
working on the Governor's proposed budget has passed the residency restrictions to be removed
by State and local units of Government. The Joint Finance Committee modified the Governor's
proposal by specifying Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters would need to live within 15 miles of
the jurisdictional boundaries in which they serve. The Sheriff will follow the progress of this
item through the legislative process. Shilts also reminded the committee of the Law Enforcement
Officer Memorial Ceremony to be held on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:00 PM at the Hudson High
School Auditorium.
