March 21, 2014 8:00 AM Concerns were expressed regarding approving minutes for a meeting which all the committee members did not attend. The minutes were accepted as presented. RESULT: ACCEPTED PUBLIC COMMENT* No public comments were offered. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Election of Chair & Vice Chair Roger Larson nominated Andy Brinkman for Chairman of the Public Protection Committee, seconded by Scott Nelson. Larson motions for unanimous ballot for Brinkman, Scott Nelson seconds. Christopher Babbitt nominates Scott Nelson for Vice Chairman of the Public Protection Committee, seconded by Andy Brinkman. Larson motions for unanimous ballot for Nelson, Christopher Babbitt seconds. 2. Establish Regular Meeting Schedule Next meeting is Friday, May 30th at 8:00 AM in the County Board room. Meetings will be determined on a month to month basis at this time. Chairman Brinkman informed members to contact him if they have items they would like placed on the agenda. If members would like to have contact with departments they are encouraged to call and schedule time with the department heads. Brinkman thanked Roger Larson for achievements as previous Chair of this committee.. 3. Department Fact Sheet Review From Orientation Representatives from each Department introduced themselves and key members of their staff. Committee members introduced themselves and gave a brief history. 4. Appointment to the CJCC Nelson nominated Brinkman to serve on the CJCC committee, seconded by Babbitt. Motion carries. RESULT: APPROVED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Scott Nelson, Supervisor SECONDER: Christopher Babbitt, Supervisor AYES: Christopher Babbitt, Stephen Nielsen, Scott Nelson, Roger Larson, Andy Brinkman 5. Endorsement for ADA Drug Prosecutor Position The Administration Committee on Monday, April 21, 2014, voted to approve a contingency fund transfer to the District Attorney budget to cover costs for this position. This position would be for a two year term starting June 1, 2014. The position would be evaluated and determination made if the position should become permanent. DA Johnson reported on assistant District Attorneys throughout the state and St. Croix County. This position would be a drug prosecutor position. Johnson believes this position would increase the number of people receiving needed help and/or treatment and decrease the number of people being sent to jail. Motion made by Nielson/seconded by Babbitt to support the District Attorney's request for a special Assistant District Attorney drug prosecutor position. Motion carried. RESULT: RECOMMENDED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Stephen Nielsen, Supervisor SECONDER: Christopher Babbitt, Supervisor AYES: Christopher Babbitt, Stephen Nielsen, Scott Nelson, Roger Larson, Andy Brinkman 6. Future Agenda Items There were no suggestions for future agenda items. ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE There were no announcements or correspondence.
