APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Public Protection & Judiciary Committee – Regular Meeting – June 9, 2017 8:00 AM
Achterhof noted grammatical errors; revisions will be made.

BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Financial Reports
Thompson outlined the financial reports.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
2. Resolution Authorizing Placement at the 180 Program-Northwest Regional Juvenile
Detention Center for Periods not to Exceed 365 Day
This resolution is informational only as the Health and Human Services Board has
already approved it. Motion by Babbitt, 2nd by Larson for the Public Protection and
Judiciary Committee's support of this resolution. Carried unanimously. Children
Services Administrator Julie Krings expressed her appreciation for the support and
outlined the benefits and cost savings.

3. Community Justice Collaborating Council (CJCC)
O'Keefe provided an updated report; brief discussion regarding data collection.
Thompson reported on the proposed Crime Data Analyst position stating he will
recommend this position to the Administration Committee. Thompson reported the
intention is to convert a vacant position in the Sheriff's Office for this position and noted
the cost savings. Discussion regarding the vacant position workload; Knudson reported
Sheriff's Office administration staff will assume certain duties and their positions will be
upgraded. Motion by Babbit, 2nd by Achterhof for the Public Protection and
Judiciary Committee's support of the Crime Data Analyst position. Carried
unanimously.

4. Sheriff's staff update
Sheriff Knudson reported he has posted the Chief Deputy position and filled the
Lieutenant position in the Jail, noting the ripple affect of filling positions. Knudson
expressed his support for the Crime Data Analyst Position, noting they have asked for
this position for several years.

5. Medical Examiner's Office
Medical Examiner Schachtner reported the ME Office has moved into the new space.
Schachtner reported on a recent no-lift policy implemented from hospice and home health
care and noted the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Support Services will likely be
affected. Discussion regarding the opioid drug crisis and the hazards for emergency and
law enforcement personnel; Schachtner reported they are working to get people trained
on safety measures.

6. 9-1-1 Infrastructure Phase II
Emergency Communications Manager Andersen outlined the status on phase II noting
the budget is on track and reported radios have been installed to all tower sites.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE
Brinkman announced the canine 5k run/walk fundraiser is Thursday, August 17th in Star Prairie.
Knudson announced the Shop With a Cop event is also on August 17th; noting this program
assists kids with the purchase of school supplies. Knudson/Brinkman announced the canine golf
tournament fundraiser will be held on August 27, 2017 at Pheasant Hills.
