APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Public Protection & Judiciary Committee – Regular Meeting – September 3, 2020 8:00 AM RESULT: APPROVED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Shelly Tomtschik, Supervisor SECONDER: Paul Berning, Supervisor AYES: Cathy Leaf, Paul Berning, Bob Feidler, Shelly Tomtschik EXCUSED: Daniel Hansen PUBLIC COMMENT None BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Financial Report August 2020 Interim County Administrator Witt reported all departments are within acceptable budget perimeters. RESULT: DISCUSSED 2. Consideration of creating a joint mental health facility project Supervisor Paul Berning brought forth concerns regarding transportation of persons who are having a mental health episode and the stresses this puts on law enforcement. Berning would like to explore if St. Croix and other counties around Chippewa county would be interested in exploring a joint mental health facility project and pool resources in the area to pay for this. Berning would take what was put in front of the state legislature and work from there. A resolution by this committee would start the process and from there, go to other counties and other private industries and shareholders. CJCC Coordinator Mike O'Keefe suggests interested parties review the past minutes from the CJCC mental health subcommittee and the work and discussion that committee has done on this subject. November 15, 2020 was offered as a date to have a first meeting of interested parties to formulate a resolution and bring forth to this committee at the December meeting. RESULT: DISCUSSED 3. Tour of the special needs jail cells and the Day Report Center expansion projects 4:30 PM The committee reconvened and toured the special needs cell area, the exercise room and the newly completed Day Report Center expansion. RESULT: DISCUSSED REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS No items ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE Sheriff Scott Knudson continues to invite schools, grades 4 - 7 for the Stop Drugs Calendar contest. Entries due by October 19th. Meeting is now in recess for the tour of the Day Report Center and the special needs jail cells.
