APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Public Protection & Judiciary Committee – Regular Meeting – May 7, 2020 8:00 AM
Minutes to be amended to detail Paul Berning arrived late but was present for the
meeting.
RESULT: ACCEPTED AS AMENDED

BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Financial Report for April 2020
Administrator Patrick Thompson reviewed reporting department's revenue and expense
status as of April 30, 2020. All departments are within the budget parameters.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
2. Review of Emergency Order
Chair Bob Feidler reviewed the Emergency order brought forth to the County Board
meeting.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
3. Overview of reporting departments
Judge Needham reviewed the actions taken by the Courts in response to COVID-19. The
Supreme court placed the responsibility of each county to address reengaging the
courts. Clerk of Court Kristi Severson gave a brief overview of the department. Child
Support Administrator Lisa Plunkett detailing the department's mission and work.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
4. Medical Examiner's Office Update
Medical Examiner Patty Schachtner gave the committee an update on what the
department has been working on. A Progam Coordinator has been hired.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
5. District Attorney Report - Karl Anderson
Assistant District Attorney Karl Anderson appeared before the committee to report on
forming an elder abuse taskforce. Mr. Anderson has worked on forming an elder
abuse task force. Discussion on possible members and missions.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
6. Sheriff's Office Corrections Bureau Programs and Project
Chief Deputy Cathy Borgschatz reported on the inmate programs in the jail. Sheriff Scott
Knudson updated the committee on the Day Report Center and jail initiatives
implemented for the COVID-19 pandemic.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
7. Response to Minnesota Emergency
Sheriff Scott Knudson reported on the department's operations and response due to the
civil unrest in the twin cities.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Supervisor Hansen offered a future agenda item focusing on the Stepping Up program for the
jail.
