BUSINESS ITEMS
ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE
Chair Klatt advised the committee that the Dot Map containing the locations of all crash reports
that were handled by St. Croix County Sheriff and Wisconsin State Patrol during 2013, is
available and will be posted in the Sheriff's Office Training Room for their review.
INFO/DISCUSSION ITEM S
1. State Highway 35 / Radio Road Interchange
Greg Helgeson advised that the St of WI DOT is expecting the new interchange will be
completed and open by 8/01/14.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
2. State Highway 64 St. Croix Crossing Project - Wisconsin Side
Greg Helgeson advised that he is expecting that the completion of the new bridge ove r
the freeway will be completed by July 2014, so the STH 35 detour @ CTH V can be
opened up. He also advised that the new St. Croix River Bridge will be hopefully
opening in the Summer/Fall of 2016.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
3. STH 65/70th Avenue - Flying J Truck Stop
Chair Klatt displayed a map of the area to show the committee where the traffic problems
are taking place. Greg Helgeson went into great detail as to traffic problems/congestion
that is being experienced in that area, noting that the area is especially problematic when
the weather is bad. John Bond also gave input regarding the problems that the village is
seeing in this area. Greg advised that the State of Wisconsin DOT is looking into a long
term proposal to improve the intersection for future de mand, but this proposal would not
improve the 70th avenue traffic backups. There is hope that the Flying J has a plan of
action to alleviate the stacking/backup of traffic in this area.
John Bond advised that he will talk to the Village of Roberts Planning Board and the
Public Works Village Engineer to look at getting ideas and input on how to solve these
traffic problems.
William Peavey made a motion to have the Traffic Safety Committee send a letter to the
Village of Roberts, indicating the truck traffic concerns at the Flying J driveway; this
motion was seconded by Matt Melby; approved. Chair Klatt will draft and send out that
letter.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
4. State Patrol Traffic Report
Sergeant Erickson notified the committee that a new trooper has been hired; therefore,
with 9 troopers now, St. Croix County is once again at full strength.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
5. Fatality Reports
Chair Klatt reported that St. Croix County has had two fatalities since our last Traffic
Safety Meeting.
Since Dennis Johnson was absent, there was no updated information available regarding
the State of WI fatality report for the last quarter.
RESULT: DISCUSSED

Chair Klatt gave a brief overview of the State Patrol Laws of the Month:
APRIL - State law requires headlight use so you can see and be seen
MAY - U-turns on freeway crossovers are dangerous and illegal
JUNE - Tailgating increases risks of crashes and road rage
RESULT: DISCUSSED
