APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Traffic Safety – Regular Meeting – October 18, 2017 10:00 AM Minutes were accepted as presented. RESULT: ACCEPTED PUBLIC COMMENT No public comment. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. State Patrol Crash & Traffic Report Sgt. Erickson & Rick Olig gave an update on the fatality statistics for St. Croix County as well as the State of Wisconsin. RESULT: DISCUSSED 2. St. Croix County Crash Report Chair Klatt advised that in 2017 St. Croix County had a total of 7 fatalities. As of today's meeting date, we have had 5 fatalities thus far in 2018. RESULT: DISCUSSED 3. WisDOT Legislative Report Rick Olig advised that the WI State Legislature is not in session at this time. RESULT: DISCUSSED 4. Update on 2018 Hwy Projects Greg Helgeson gave an update on the I-94 & STH 35 interchange project, as well as a brief discussion regarding finalizing the loop trail that will connect the bike lane to the old Stillwater bridge and the New St. Croix River Crossing. JR Dachel inquired about the intersection at USH 12 & STH 128; discussion ensued. RESULT: DISCUSSED 5. STH 128 & STH 29 The committee had a lengthy discussion regarding crash concerns at this intersection. RESULT: DISCUSSED 6. CTH I & CTH E Chair Klatt & Sheriff Knudson led the discussion regarding this intersection and the most recent fatality. Robbie Krejci & Greg Helgeson advised of plans to improve the intersection. RESULT: DISCUSSED 7. STH 128 & I-94 A lengthy discussion took place and Greg Helgeson advised there are discussions taking place to remedy the problems at this intersection. RESULT: DISCUSSED 8. Local Road Safety Plans Robbie Krejci advised the committee of a pilot program that is underway to address local road safety plans, and there are public informational meetings being held across the county. As more information becomes available, there will be additional agenda item discussions on this matter. RESULT: DISCUSSED 9. CTH V & CTH E Intersection Update Robbie Krejci informed the committee that reflective strips have been added to the stop signs in this area, and he has received a lot of positive feedback, and minimal negative feedback pertaining to the strips. RESULT: DISCUSSED 10. Demo of Community Maps New Feature Rick Olig gave a lengthy demonstration of the many features available for use in community maps in The WisTransPortal Project. RESULT: DISCUSSED REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Robbie Krejci requested that ATV's be added as a discussion item to the next agenda. ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE Chair Klatt welcomed new members County Board Supervisor Bob Feidler; WisDOT Engineer Dan Bieberitz, who will be replacing Greg Helgeson; District Attorney Michael Nieskes; and new Trooper Jeremiah Schummer. JR Dachel informed the committee that the Baldwin/Woodville School District had 35 school bus stop arm violations during the 2017-2018 school year. The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office would like to congratulate Greg Helgeson, WisDOT Traffic Engineer on his retirement. Greg has been serving with WisDOT for 35 years and has been WisDOT's representative on the St. Croix County Traffic Safety Commission since 1996. Sheriff Knudson thanked Greg for his 22 years of serving St. Croix County and presented him with a St. Croix County Challenge Coin. A small reception with cake and refreshments concluded the meeting.
