November 21, 2002

CALL TO ORDER Chairman, Rich Peterson, called the
meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
ROLL CALL Members present were: Dr. Glenn Hoberg,
Irene Burch, Marguerite Sumner, Carolyn Weisenburger, Ralph
Bader, Richard (Buzz) Marzolf, Alice Mullan, Gerald Peterson,
Bette Norman, Lorretta Cassellius, Rich Peterson, and Mary Lou
Smith. Also present were: Sandy Gehrmann, Tracy Davis, Renea
Aeschliman, Sylvia Heller, Janice Thompson, Gladys Ellefson,
Donna Lamson, Diana Fern, Cindy Ahrens, Shirley Marlette,
Karen Wells, Jeannette O'Connell, and Lorraine Jacobs.
Introductions were made.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by Gerald
Peterson, and seconded by Marguerite Sumner to adopt the
agenda as printed; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on
Thursday December 19, 2002.
ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES A motion was made by
Ralph Bader and seconded by Dr. Glen Hoberg to approve the
minutes as printed; motion carried.

Vehicle Usage: The transportation committee met on Oct. 30
and reviewed the present use of the vans. Tracy Davis
reported that the committee decided to no longer allow outside
agencies /organizations that are for profit to use the site vans.
Vans would be available for usage by non - profit organizations
and for special occasions planned by the Office on Aging with
approval by the Council. Drivers must be trained volunteers or
employees of the Office on Aging.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dan Arnold, HomeInstead: HomeInstead is a non - medical
home health company whose goal is to keep seniors in their
own homes as long as possible. The program is a paid service
program with paid staff.
Public Hearing DOT 85.21 Transportation Grant: Called to
order at 9:45 a.m. by Tracy Davis. Handed out copies of
grant information. Two projects are being applied for -
van /mini bus project and ride share taxi in River Falls
(contracted services) . Need to purchase newer vans.
Approved by Dr. Glen Hoberg and seconded by Ralph Bader.
Motion carried.
SCAN Proposals: Letters of intent were read from New
Richmond News, Woodville Leader, and Bob & Barb Gardner.
Duane DeYoung, Woodville Leader, was present to answer
questions regarding his proposal. Gerald Peterson made a
motion that the Woodville Leader should publish the SCAN
starting with the December issue and it was seconded by
Richard Marzolf. Motion carried.

Community Health Partnership (video), Ron Lockwood &
Barb Sours: Handout and brochure was given to the
Council. Community Health Partnership is a fully integrated
care management corporation that serves frail elderly and
physically disabled. CHP is hoping to move into St. Croix
County. A motion was made to write a letter of support for the
program by Marguerite Sumner and seconded by Gerald
Peterson. Motion carried.
STAFF REPORTS
Sandy's Report: Metro Meals on Wheels has been fundraising
again in the county and John Coughlin wrote a letter to them
from the United Way, to stop soliciting in St. Croix County.
Buzz Marzolf was going to write a letter to editor in regards to
the fundraising. Please send letters and call them to let them
know you do not believe it is right for them to be soliciting in St.
Croix County.
Fortis has donated sweaters and sweatshirts for Secret Santa.
Items for donation need to be in the office by Friday, Dec. 13".
Please call the office with recipient names.
Sue Kramer and Sandy met with the North Hudson Police
Department regarding safety issues for seniors in the North
Hudson area. There will be 3 sessions for seniors to be held at
Mama Maria's 3 consecutive weeks.
Caregiver Support programs will be doing a bulk mailing
fundraisers to businesses.
Sites must have area nursing homes take turns, if they are having
nursing homes come in and check blood pressure, volunteer

nurses are an option. We will be purchasing wrist blood pressure
monitors.
Tracy's Report: Van inspections were held on Friday,
November I 5 at the Hammond Highway Department. All of
the 9 vans passed, 5 with minor defects. Thank you to all the
drivers.
Site budget sheets for the site treasurers were given out in
preparation for 2003 budgets and 2002 budget tax forms.
Hudson van is expected to arrive on Nov. 25
VIOP has received donations from area Lions Clubs for the
purchase of a tape- duplicating machine.
SITE /CENTER REPORTS:
BALDWIN Evelyn played her keyboard and sang old time
songs. Participants took part in working crosswords. Evelyn
presented a programon barns and showed pictures. All activities
are going well.
DEER PARK Centerboard obtained new members. Grannies
entertained for Legion Party.
GLENWOOD CITY: Cards and bingo are going well. Had a
foot Clinic this month. Thanksgiving and appreciation dinner
held on Tuesday, November 26 th .
HAMMOND /ROBERTS All activities are going well. Held a
bakeless bake sale, which went well. Planning a van trip to the
Wilson Place Museum on December 10".
HUDSON All activities are going well. Halloween party went
well with bingo and a candy hunt. Fridays are game day.

Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held with the Grannies
entertaining.
NEW RICHMOND 55
Alive went
well. Had Bring A Friend
to Lunch day.
Three
participants
brought friends with one
coming on a
regular
basis and
the others are coming
occasionally.
Activities
are going
well. Christmas party is
planned for the
16' of December.
RIVER FALLS: Foot clinic will be held on December 18
Christmas party to be held on December 2nd at the West Wind
with music by the Cardell's.
SOMERSET Christmas party on December 18 with Bob
Mastel playing the accordion. Planning on doing a $3.00 gift
exchange. Caregiver meal is going good and the site received a
thank you from the family. Trying to set up massage therapy for
the site.
WOODVILLE Halloween party went well - some participants
dressed up. Planning Thanksgiving Appreciation Dinner for
Tuesday, November 20 Had a bakeless bake sale and did well.
Cards and bingo are going well.
A motion was made by Ralph Bader, seconded by Richard
(Buzz) Marzolf, to approve van trips; motion carried.
