REVIEW:
The Zoning Administrator will revicw the application for completeness and assign a file number to the application. The Zoning
Administrator may requirc additional information and will notify the applicant ofthis within a reasonable timefranre. LIpon receiving a
complete application and supporting documcnts, the Zoning Adminislrator will:
. send copies ofthe applications to the appropriate reviewing agencies for comment. Applicsnts are cncouraged to contact
their town to discuss their applic{tion and inquire about necessary building permits rnd rpprovals at thc to$n level;
o schedule a site vish to thc applicant's propeny. at which time the applicant shall flag all applicable propcrty/project corners
and label the flags accordingly; and
r revierv the file and prepare findings lor approval or denial ofthe perrnit within 30 days. Upon rcaching a decision. the Countl
\vill prepare a written decision with I0 days ofthe decision.

Action Battery Wholesalers, lnc. will be installing a new Stone Pillar type Cabinet Sign to
tie into the new building addition which was completed this past spring (2013.)
There are 3 businesses on this plot, all owned by Tim & Judy Dove (Action Battery
Wholesalers, lnc, BAE & R & R Specialties.) The businesses are all housed out ofthe
same building/warehouse.
The sign will include all company names (see attached drawing)
The Mason Pillars will be 2'wide x 9' high using Concrete Block & Field Stone. They will
have frost footings.
Attached to the Mason Pillars will be a Non-llluminated 2 sided enclosed Cabinet Sign
with Digitally Printed Logos
The sign will be located 10 feet from the ROW & 60 feet from the road center line
(please see attached property map with an "x" indicating the proposed sign location.)
Once permit approval is received, the footings will be dug and installed with the goal of
having the full sign in place before year end.

RE: LAND USE PERMIT –PERMANENT,ON-PREMISE SIGNAGE
Site: 484 County Road V V, Parcel # 05.30.19.536E, Town of Somerset
Dear Mr. Dove:
This letter confirms zoning approval to construct one (1) permanent, on-premise, freestanding sign
on the parcel referenced above in the Commercial District in the Town of Somerset. Staff finds that
the proposed sign meets the requirements of the St. Croix County Zoning Ordinance based on the
following findings:
1.One free-standing sign will be affiliated with the following businesses located on the
Commercially zoned property:
a.Action Battery – operating under a special exception permit obtained October 4, 1996,
File # 66-96. Action Battery is a dealer of BAE brand batteries, which will also be
mentioned on the sign;
b.R&R Specialties – operating under a special exception permit obtained October 4, 1996,
File # 66-96;
2.There is one existing, temporary freestanding sign located on the property;
3.The proposed plans include one back to back freestanding sign fronting County Road V V;
4.The proposed freestanding sign will be 50 square feet on each side with a total height of 9 feet
as measured from the existing ground elevation, which meets all required size limitations;
5.The proposed freestanding sign will be located 60 feet from the centerline of County Road V V
(10 feet from the edge of the road right-of-way) and over 20’ from any side or rear yard property
line, which meets all required setbacks;
6.The sign will be not be illuminated or include any electrical components;
7.The sign is allowed with a land use permit pursuant to Section 17.65 D.2.d. of the St. Croix
County Zoning Ordinance;
8.With conditions requiring compliance with all sign standards, including but not limited to the
standards in Section 17.65 C. of the St. Croix County Zoning Ordinance, the purpose of the sign
regulation and the spirit and intent of the Ordinance will be met.
Approval of the land use permit is subject to the following conditions:
1.The sign must be constructed in accordance with the plans submitted and as provided in the
conditions below;
2.Sign construction must commence within one year of the approval date of this letter and be
substantially completed within two years, after which time the permit expires. Prior to

expiration, the applicant may request extensions of up to six months from the Zoning
Administrator. The total time granted for extensions shall not exceed one year;
3.Immediately upon completing construction of the sign, the applicant shall notify the Zoning
Administrator and submit photographs to document compliance with the permit;
4.Immediately upon completing construction of the sign, the applicant will remove the existing
temporary sign.
This approval does not allow for any construction or additional signs, sign components, or
structures beyond the limits of this request. Your information will remain on file in the St. Croix
County Planning and Zoning Department. It is your responsibility to ensure compliance with any other
local, state, and federal rules or regulations, including but not limited to obtaining approval from the
Town of Somerset.
