PERSONNEL COMMITTEE MEETING

Date: December 19, 2002 Location: Government Center, Hudson
The Personnel Committee meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. by Chairman
Daryl Standafer. Members present: Standafer, Dick King, Julie Speer, and Stan
Krueger. Leon Berenschot arrived at 8:40 a.m. Also present: Debra Kathan. Chuck
Whiting arrived at 8:40 a.m., Steve Weld at 8:45 a.m.
Moved (Krueger, Speer) and approved to adopt the agenda as presented. Moved
(King, Krueger) and approved to accept the minutes of the December 2 meeting. The
next meeting was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on January 15 at the Government Center. The
Committee will be mediating with the Highway Union. Steve Bohrer was appointed as
the mediator for this group.
The Committee reviewed the particulars of the Employee Appreciation Banquet
conducted on December 10 and offered no changes for its continuation in 2003. It was
noted that the gifts, banquet meal, and instrumentalist were very well received.
Per request of an elected official, the Personnel Committee reviewed the
compensation package for the five County elected officials. The Committee took no
action on a request to increase the annual compensation to three percent, from the already
approved two and one -half percent. Standafer indicated that he will contact the elected
official to explain the Committee's position.
Motion to go into closed session per WI Stat. 19.85 (1) c for the purpose of
mediation with the LAW group. Roll call vote: all aye; moved into closed session at
9:05 a.m. Mediator for the session was Steve Morrison. Union members were Mike
Winberg, Jim Mikla, Jim Dorsey, Bob Widiker, Shawn DeMulling, and Dave Hake.
The Mediator declared an impasse at 12:30 p.m. He noted that final proposals
would be exchanged by mail prior to January 15. Moved ( Berenschot, Kruger) and
approved to come out of closed session at 12:33 p.m.
Standafer adjourned the meeting at 12:33 p.m.
