APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Domestic Violence & Family Issues Subcommittee of the Community Justice
Collaborating Council Regular Meeting December 19, 2018 11:30 AM
Minutes were accepted as presented.
RESULT: ACCEPTED
PUBLIC COMMENT
The Hon. R. Michael Waterman discussed the proposed Court Appointed Special Advocates
(CASA) program for St. Croix County and which CJCC subcommittee should provide oversight
for this venture.
BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Review Subcommittee Membership
Mike O'Keefe, CJCC Coordinator, states Kate Avoles requested to be removed from the
CJCC DV/Family Issues Subcommittee due to her recent appointment as CJCC Council
Vice Chair. Kate has reached out to Attorney Ryan Shervey and he is interested in
serving on this Subcommittee. Brian Smestad, Supervisor, Office of State Public
Defender informed Mike O'Keefe that Attorney Anjali Patel, Public Defender would be a
good addition to this group. Steve Kirt made a motion to add Attorney Anjali Patel and
Attorney Ryan Shervey to the CJCC DV/Family Issues Subcommittee. Second by Mark
Lemke and approved unanimously.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
2. Update on Compliance Court & Law Enforcement Packets
Judge Vlack gave an update on progress with implementing a Domestic Violence
Compliance Court. Judge Vlack, Branch II will act as the primary Compliance Court Judge
and we are in the stage of working out the details with the Probation and Parole Office
as well as the District Attorney's Office. Judge Vlack will give an update at the next
meeting.

3. Review Available Domestic Violence Community Services
Discussionwas held on available local resources for evidence based domestic violence
perpetrator risk assessments and treatment. Further discussion was held on available
services for family and children that have experienced domestic violence.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
4. Turningpoint For Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence Presentation
Judge Vlack invited Alena Taylor, Executive Director, Turningpoint, to give a presentation
about their program and what they can provide to address the gaps in our service
delivery to victims of domestic violence. Ms. Taylor gave an in depth presentation about
available services at Turningpoint. She also discussed their strategic plan and answered
questions from Subcommittee members. Judge Vlack thanked Ms. Taylor for the
informative presentation and asked her what we can do to help support their efforts.
RESULT: DISCUSSED
