Domestic Violence & Family Issues Subcommittee of the Community Justice Collaborating Council Regular Meeting February 21, 2018 11:30 AM The minutes from the February 21, 2018 meeting was accepted as presented. RESULT: ACCEPTED PUBLIC COMMENT Dr. Brad Nevins, Midwest Counseling, gave a brief overview of programming available at his business for those in need of a batterer's treatment group or counseling. He also states that his batterer's treatment groups are listed on the State of WI list of certified providers. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Judge Vlack discussed the upcoming training in Minneapolis on June 12-13, 2018. Subcommittee members attending this training are Mark Richert, Kate Avoles, Michael Nieskes, Mark Lemke, and Judge Vlack. The focus of this training is developing a DV Compliance Court in your community and is sponsored by the Center for Court Innovation (CCI). RESULT: DISCUSSED 2. Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) Update Chief Mark Richert reported the first meeting for the Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) was held on March 28, 2018. The North Hudson Police Department and the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office will be the pilot program for this project. Once the program is established a train the trainer program will be set up for other agencies that want to participate. The training is scheduled for June or July, 2018. Initially there will be 4 trainers and 6 staff from Turningpoint. Statistics show that 50-60 % of victims in a domestic violence situation will identify as being in a high danger area and only 4-5% chose not to answer LAP questions. Chief Richert states this subcommittee will receive updates as this program progresses. This program may also be built into the Field Training Officer (FTO) manual. RESULT: DISCUSSED 3. Domestic Violence Family Issues Systems Mapping Discussion was held on DV batterer treatment options in the community and JudgeVlack asked Steve Kirt if he would send something to agencies in the area to see what is available. Steve Kirt will report back to the subcommittee at the next meeting on this issue. RESULT: DISCUSSED REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE ADJOURN Judge Vlack adjourned the meeting at 12:20 p.m. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next CJCC DV/Family Issues Subcommittee is Wednesday, June 20, 2018, 11:30 a.m., in room 1216.
