HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-18-2019 Citizen Review Panel Minutes MEETING MINUTES St. Croix County Citizen Review Panel June 18, 2019 11:30 am Turning Point Office 337 East Fifth Street New Richmond WI CALL TO ORDER: 11:30 am ROLL CALL Emma, Sandy, Ashley, Sunshine, Nicole, Aubrey, Phoenix, Sue, Ben APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. May 21, 2019 meeting: Add BACA children and Turing Point children to the list of children that the panel will pay for day camp registration at Camp St. Croix YMCA camp. (Cost is $25.00 per child). PUBLIC COMMENT: None BUSINESS ITEMS 1. National Conference Update: Emma. Phoenix and Sunshine. They shared that the conference was very good and they had very good breakout session. They wished there would have been more breakout sessions for citizens and not just for professionals involved in the CPS programs. Some information shared with panel: Emma shared with panel members various state CRP recommendations. Phoenix shared from a breakout session that 1in 10 children are sexually abused in the United States. If children are sexually abused it usually takes 21 to 22 years before they will disclose this. Children who are sexually abuse will usually inform a female relative. (Mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin). Ashley from SART shared that it best to collect specimens from children 12 and under within the first 24 hours. But can up to 72 hours. For children 13 and older you can collect specimens up to 5 days. There are no statutes of limitations for child abuse. Nicole shared that in our county the majority of abuse cases are for neglect. National Night Out is th August 6. 2. A Shaken Baby Syndrome doll was purchased from the panel and given to CESA 11/ Headstart in New Richmond for staff to use for parent education. Sandy who is a panel member and works in Early Headstart gave a thank-you to the panel members for the gift of the SBS doll. 3. Budget Update: There is $2,905.94 left in the budget. Emma, Phoenix and Sunshine turned in expenses for the conference. 4. Foster Parent Event expenses: Foster Parent Coordinator requested funds for Foster Parent panel members approved giving the foster parent coordinators $300.00 for Mama Marias and $300.00 for a pizza place for foster parent recruitment meetings and events. 5. Foster children campership expenses. The panel members agreed to pay for the registration fee for Camp St. Croix YMCA day camp for a week for foster children, BACA children and Turningpoint children. Approximately $25.00 per child. Emma is the contact person for camp registration. Flyers were given to panel members. 6. Facebook page. All can add events to our Facebook page that are appropriate. 7. Fall event? Do we want to plan one? We will discuss this at our August meeting. th 8. State Meeting: Oct. 11 Stevens Point WI. Who would like to attend? Will discuss more at our August meeting. 9. Sharing: Emma volunteered to be the New CRP leader. She will take over at the August meeting. She will meet with Sue in July. Sue will be the minute taker. The panel members voted to have our meetings in New Richmond. It is much closer for the majority of the members to attend the meetings. And much easier for the CPS social workers to attend. We will meet at the Turningpoint house or at the St. Croix County Services Center. Phoenix suggested that for case reviews we have the CPS case workers share a new case, a finished case and a case in progress. thth Sunshine shared that children entering 9 through 12 grade can have a free summer membership at the Hudson YMCA center. The contact person is Amanda Kasay. They can register on line. REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENGA ITEMS: Case reviews: Nicole and Aubrey. Sue will invite our state Coordinator to our August meeting. She wants to see how case reviews are done. Should we have a fall event? ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE: th DATE OF NEXT MEETING: We will not meet in July. Our next meeting will be August 20 in New Richmond Turningpoint house. Proposed closed session pursuant to Wis. Stat. 19.85(1) (f) to consider and discuss the medical, social, and personal history of an abused and/or neglected minor child. Case review. Reconvene into open session Panel may take action under discussion on in closed session and/or report action taken today in closed session, if any. ADJOURN THE MEETING A quorum of the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors (County Board) may be present at this meeting. Therefore, this notice also serves as notice of a meeting of the County Board for the purpose of obtaining information relating to subjects listed above for use at future County Board meetings.
