CALL TO ORDER
Council on Aging and Disabilities (COAD) Chair Ostness called the December 8, 2023 meeting of
the COAD to order at approximately 8:30 AM.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Council on Aging and Disabilities Regular Meeting November 10, 2023 8:30 AM
Council Chair Ostness asked if there were any corrections, additions, or deletions to the
minutes. With nothing noted Chair Ostness approved the minutes as written.
RESULT: ACCEPTED
PUBLIC COMMENT
Chair Ostness opened the floor for public comment. Hearing none, he proceeded with the
meeting.

INFO/DISCUSSION ITEMS
1. Aging and Disability Resource Center Financial Reports
Carrie Doehrmann , HHS Lead Finance Specialist reviewed the 2023 Financial Report.
Discussion and questions followed.

2. Dementia Live Training
Kim Bauer, Dementia Care Specialist, presented a power point on Dementia Live. Bauer
explained this presentation is a Dementia simulation experience created by Age-u-care.
Bauer shared one in three seniors dies from Alzheimer's or other dementia. Bauer stated
Alzheimer's disease and other dementia's will cost the nation $321 billion or more by
2050. Bauer explained 50% of primary care physicians believe the medical profession is
not ready for the growing number of people with Alzheimer's or other dementia's. Bauer
explained that dementia is not a disease. There are more than 100 different disorders
causing dementia. Bauer also shared that she leads St Croix Valley Community Coalition.
The St Croix Valley Community Coalition do a variety of events around the community to
bring awareness of dementia related issues. This program is always looking for
volunteers in the community. If you know of any family members, people out in the
community or professionals please reach out to Kim Bauer, our Dementia Care Specialist
@ 715-381-4411. Bauer also started a program after COVID called Journey Along. This is
a social outing group for people living with dementia and their caregiver's. This event is
hosted by Bauer once a month in different places through out the community and has a
different theme. Journey Along provides a safe environment to have fun and be together
in fellowship. For more information or to sign up please contact Kim Bauer, our

3. Glenwood City Nutrition Site Update
Bob Rohret, HHS Director gave update on behalf of ADRC Administrator Kristin Newton.
Director Rohret explained that City of Glenwood has increased rent at the Glenwood
Senior Center. Director Rohret stated there is potential that the City of Glenwood may
ask us move out of the existing Glenwood Senior Center location if we are unable to pay
the increased rent. Kristin Newton, ADRC Administrator and Director Rohret are looking
into other options for the senior center and requested that if anyone has suggestions of
locations to please let ADRC know. Administrator Newton is staying in touch with the
Mayor of Glenwood City and trying reach a solution.

Chair Dave Ostness asked if there were any suggestions for future agenda items. No suggestions
where noted.
ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE
Chair Ostness asked if there were any announcements.
Council member Roxanne Wakeen announced the Special Olympics will be held on January 28th
at the Baldwin High School starting @ 10:00 a.m.
Director Rohret shared:
Director Rohret announced there was no HHS board meeting in November but there will be a
board meeting December 20th @ 5 p.m.
