CALL TO ORDER Chairman, Rich Peterson, called the
meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
ROLL CALL Members present were: Richard Peterson,
Margaret Wolske, John Mortensen, Mary Lou Smith, Ralph
Bader, Florence Patrick, Glenn Hoberg, Marguerite Sumner,
Doris Teigen. Carolyn Weisenburger, Rhoda Wood, and Irene
Burch were excused. Also present were: Barb Blaisdell, Sandy
Gehrmann, Tracy Davis, Sylvia Heller, Janice Thompson, Betty
Jordahl, Gladys Ellefson, Donna Lamson, Donna Hauser,
Roberta Moe, Pat Otto, Faye Kangas, and Lorraine Jacobs
Introductions were made.
Special guest Art Christiansen, from AARP, explained the 55
Alive Driving Program. The two day, eight hour course will be
offered at the Hudson Senior Center later this year. Anyone else
interested in scheduling the course should contact him. Total cost
to participants is $10.00.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by John
Mortensen, and seconded by Marguerite Sumner to adopt the
agenda as printed; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on
Thursday August 16th, 2001.

NEW BUSINESS
Cancer Transportation: This issue to be discussed at the
upcoming Regional Meetings of Aging Directors. Thursday
The Department plans to have an American Cancer Society
representative available at a future Council meeting. A copy of
The American Cancer Society Midwest Division Community
Report was passed for review.
Capital Outlay Plan: This plan outlined projected capital
outlay over a five year period for the three Department on
Aging trust accounts. Plans for the Nutrition Trust include
replacement of kitchen equipment and computers at the sites
and upgrading - or replacement of office equipment for the
Department. Funds to date in the Nutrition Trust will see the
plan partially through the year 2004.
This year the Department has received three payroll deduction
designations for the Somerset Home Delk Meal Program.
the DayAway Clubs, and the Benefit Specialist Program.
A motion was made by Marguerite Sumner and seconded by
Florence Patrick to approve the five -year capital outlay plan as
presented; motion carried.
Barb distributed a handout outlining the five -year capital outlay
plan involving the two transportation trust funds. Projection of
need totals approximately $200,000.00, and includes the
replacement of three vehicles and two lift vans.
A motion was made by Mary Lou Smith and seconded by 1
Marge Wolske to approve the five -year transportation capital
1 outlay plan as presented; motion carried.
Prescription Drug Prices The Medicare Prescription nru2
Discount Card proposed by President Bush was diseu55rU.
The card would provide a 10 -25 % discount to seniors. Further
details have yet to be revealed.
A report regarding CEO salaries of the leading drug companies
was read and discussed.
The Alliance for Retired Americans report containing factual
statistics regarding prescription drug prices, drug company
profits and the effect on seniors was read and discussed. A
handout outlining the drug distribution chain was distributed
and discussed. The report will be available for further review.
Bureau for the Blind Request: Al Thompson Rehab Specialist
from the Bureau for the Blind has contacted the Department with
a request for financial support in supplying St. Croix County
seniors with visual aids.
A motion was made by Mary Lou Smith and seconded by
Florence Patrick to support the Bureau for the Blind request by
acting as a referral source to link needs to agencies with available
funding, but offer no direct funding at this time; motion carried
Staff Reports
Barb's Report: The Operations Committee met this morning to
set up general guidelines for the innovative techniques used by
sites for marketing and outreach. A standard format with
appropriate language was developed for complimentary meals
offered by Center Boards.
Sandy's Report: Sandy shared an article published in an Aging
Newsletter from Massachusetts that reported on a group of
entertainers non other than the "Happy Grannies".
County Fair site projects at this time include: Food Bingo during
Glenwood City's scheduled time, cake decorating demonstration
by Marge Wolske during Hammond's scheduled time.
The video, Food Safety for Seniors-,. will be shown at a future
Council meeting. At some point, each site should receive a copy.
Pro Bono Attorney Consultations will resume in August. Each
site will receive a copy of the August through January schedule.
It will also appear in next month's SCAN.

SITE/CENTER REPORTS
BALDWIN Four will be in attendance at the fair during
Baldwin's scheduled time. A trip to the potato chip factory was
taken' on July 13'. Card party will be held this coming
Wednesday. A van trip is planned to the Rock Elm Pie and Ice
Cream social on July 26`
DEER PARK Janice was excused early.
GLENWOOD CITY: Fair is the main topic of conversation
these days. The Food Bingo Game is all set up. Players will be
senior citizens with winner's names to go into a drawing for a
Panda bear telephone donated by the site. A doll collection
displayed recently was enjoyed by all. Soup and sandwich
fundraiser luncheon is being planned for October 5'.
HAMMOND /ROBERTS Several participants are on vacation.

Bingo and cards continue. At the last Center Board meeting it
was decided to hold chair massage once a month. Namond
Jacobson has returned. Elinor Nelson visited recently. A van
trip to the Minnesota State Fair is being planned.
HUDSON Chair exercises are going well. Computer classes
and cards held on Tuesdays. Bingo is now held on Thursday.
One day a week all are entertained by a local resident who plays
the piano. A poster.has been made for the fair.
NEW RICHMOND All construction now completed. A
shopping trip to Stillwater is being planned for the 20'. On July
26 an evening meal is planned. Amery has been invited.
Disability Coalition to tentatively use the van on the 28` August
17 , 18 and 19'. Deerfield to use the van on Tuesdays and
Fridays. Pat Otto announced that she would be retiring August
9'. Pat was thanked for her effort. Options for the New
Richmond congregate programs will be addressed in the future.
RIVER FALLS: Rhoda Wood excused.
SOMERSET Somerset has several entries for the fair. The
Center Board purchased fried chicken, potato salad and cole slaw
for a Fourth of July party that was enjoyed by all. A collection
for the Siren Senior Center was taken and $83.00 was raised.
The Center Board voted to match that. Plans are to travel to
Siren in the future to deliver the check. Camilla Langness who
guessed all entries correctly won the "Name the Baby Contest".
WOODVILLE Cards and Bingo continue to go well. A trip
to the Amish area in Augusta is planned for the 27'. The Green
Thumb worker is out for an indefinite time due to surgery. A
bakeless bake sale fundraiser will be held.
A motion was made by John Mortensen, seconded by Ralph
Bader to approve van trips; motion carried.
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CORRESPONDENCE
A reminder to return cook's surveys was given.

St. Croix County Farm City Days to be held at the Goodrich
Farm on Saturday August 11
Some present have previously voiced interest in attending the
1:00 p.m. matinee performance of "We Still Love Lucy" on
Friday, November 2n Approximately, 40+ attendees are
needed to make it worth while to secure bus transportation. Cost
for the day is $20.00.
A motion was made by Marge Wolske, seconded by Marguerite
Sumner to adjourn the meeting; motion carried.
