Carried unanimously. RESULT:ACCEPTED PUBLIC COMMENT None BUSINESS ITEMS 1.Introduction of New Members Miller explained the representation of the County Library Planning Committee, reporting there are librarians from large, medium and small libraries serving on the committee as well as two representatives from the County Board and two citizen members. The members each introduced themselves and provided a brief background. RESULT:DISCUSSED 2.Election of Officers Achterhof nominated Miller for Chair; nominations closed. Motion by Wentz, 2nd by Sjoberg to cast a unanimous ballot for Miller as Chair. Carried unanimously. Sjoberg nominated Krueger for Vice Chair; nominations closed. Motion by Sjoberg, 2nd by Wentz to cast a unanimous ballot for Krueger as Vice Chair. Carried unanimously. RESULT:DISCUSSED 3.Review of Committee's Mission and Committee Makeup The mission statement was read and reviewed; committee make-up outlined by Miller. A copy of the Plan of Library Service was provided. Discussion regarding the history of the County Library Plan and making sure the County Board is aware of what libraries are doing in the county. RESULT:DISCUSSED 4.Review County's Planned Budget Allocations for Libraries in 2018 Miller and Sjoberg provided history and commenced discussion regarding library funding. Sjoberg reported the County Board approved the Resolution Establishing Library Distribution for 2018 and explained aspects of the resolution. Miller explained at the time it was formed, the Hudson Area Joint Library pledged to pay the neighboring libraries but later chose not to pay out that money and it became a source of contention; Sjoberg provided a handout outlining budget consequences of the Hudson Area Joint Library. RESULT:DISCUSSED 5.Review of Summer Library Program Miller provided a packet of information compiled from each library regarding summer programs and activities. Miller explained the benefits of these programs and the valuable connections created within communities. RESULT:DISCUSSED 6.Calendar of library events Discussion regarding creating a shared calendar that all members can access and add to, and perhaps link to the county website. Miller reported the Somerset Library received a half million dollar donation from an anonymous donor. RESULT:DISCUSSED 7.Assignment for Next Meeting, Date, Time and Location Krueger commenced discussion regarding promoting library funding for wifi service. Discussion regarding eliminating the digital divide and contacting the American Library Association to find out what libraries are doing to address it. Discussion regarding whether there are grants and government programs available for wifi access and if the area internet providers and Friends of Libraries might be of help. Miller indicated the librarians will get together and report back on this. RESULT:DISCUSSED REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Provide a report on a shared calendar. Review ideas for the County Plan of Library Service for 2019-2022 Address the digital divide; research funding, grants, proposals for support of wifi. Review of the activities of the Friends of the Library organizations; what are they doing right? ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE A Library Hop event is to be scheduled possibly the end of September or mid-October to promote libraries and communities.
