1.County Library Planning Committee – Regular Meeting – September 13, 2018 3:30
PM
Motion to approve by Achterhof, 2nd by Coleman. Sjoberg suggested a change to the
committee member listing. Minutes approved as amended; carried unanimously.

BUSINESS ITEMS
1.Library Plan Review
Review of the proposed 2019-2022 County Plan of Library Service. Motion by Sjoberg,
2nd by Norris to approve. Motion carried unanimously.

2.Report on County Librarian meeting - Barb Krueger
Krueger reported that suggestions by Librarians were incorporated into the proposed
County Plan of Library Service 2019-2022.
3.Library Presentation - October County Board Meeting
Krueger outlined the presentation shown at the October 2, 2018 County Board meeting.
4.Review of committee accomplishments
Library Planning Committee accomplishments include: revision of the plan, work on the
organizational calendar, support of the libraries, hotspots.
5.Services the County could provide to enhance library usage
Discussion regarding a link to a calendar on the county website and having the county
provide the expense for hotspots.
6.How to encourage involvement in library activities
The following suggestions were made to encourage involvement in library activities: the
public making suggestions to the libraries, the public sharing what is good at the
libraries, Facebook, libraries periodically do surveys, media, personal connections,
face to face, word of mouth. Discussion regarding the senior and youth populations,
look at community organizations.
7.Discussion of NY Times article: To Restore Civil Society, Start With the Library
Sjoberg outlined various aspects of the NY Times article; discussion.
REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Benefits of having a special calendar for library events.
