HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2004 (35) RESOLUTION APPROVING THE TOWN OF ST. JOSEPH JOINING THE HUDSON AREA JOINT LIBRARY RESOLUTION NO. 3 5 Caooy) ST. CROIX COUNTY, WISCONSIN WHEREAS, Wisconsin Statutes §43.53 allows the creation of a joint library by any 2 or more municipalities located in whole or in part in a county by appropriate agreement of their governing bodies; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes §43.52(1m), a town needs approval from the County Board to join a joint library; and WHEREAS, the Town of St. Joseph has submitted a request to the County for approval to join the Hudson Area Joint Library; and WHEREAS, Wisconsin Statutes §43.64(1) allows a county to levy a tax to I provide funds for public library service; and WHEREAS, Wisconsin Statutes §43.64(2)(b) provides that any city, town, village or school district shall, upon written application to the County Board, be exempted from the library tax levy if the city, town, village or school district making the application levies a tax for public library service and appropriates and expend for a library fund an amount at least equal to what the county levy on the city, town, village or school district would have been, calculated by using the formula set out in §43.64(2)(b); and WHEREAS, the Town of St. Joseph has made application for exemption from the County's library tax levy; and WHEREAS, the Finance Committee recommends approval of the Town of St. Joseph joining the Hudson Area Joint Library. THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that it approves the Town of St. Joseph joining the Hudson Area Joint Library. FURTHER, be it resolved that the Town of St. Joseph is exempted from the 2005 County library tax levy and thereafter pursuant to Wisconsin statutes §43.64.
