HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions 2003 (5) RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING BIDS FOR DIGITAL MICROWAVE BACKBONE RADIO SYSTEM Resolution No. 5 C -2663) St. Croix County, Wisconsin WHEREAS, St. Croix County owns and operates a microwave backbone radio system which links radio transmitters and receivers at six locations throughout the County; and WHEREAS, the links are necessary to enable 911 dispatchers to communicate by radio with law enforcement agencies, fire departments and emergency medical services (EMS) agencies within the County; and WHEREAS, the existing microwave backbone radio system uses analog technology; analog equipment is no longer manufactured and it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain replacement parts; and WHEREAS, replacement of the existing analog equipment with digital equipment was scheduled to be done in 2004 -2005 under the County's Capital Outlay Plan; and WHEREAS, replacement of the existing analog equipment needs to be completed in 2003; and WHEREAS, the cost of replacement is approximately $1.6 million; and WHEREAS, the Finance Committee was presented the concept of moving up replacement of the analog microwave equipment during 2003 budget reviews in September, 2002 and suggested that the project be funded by a loan rather than a levy item. THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that the Emergency Management and Communications Committee is authorized to solicit bids for the replacement of the analog microwave backbone radio system with a digital microwave backbone radio system in 2003; and FURTHER, be it resolved that the Emergency Management and Communication Committee review the bids and make a report and recommendation to this Board so it can take final action on the proposal. d '1 er'fd Y r Offered by the Emergency Management and Communications Committee on January , 2003.
