Protection Grant

St. Croix County, Wisconsin
WHEREAS, the Willow River is an important resource used by the public for recreation and enjoyment of natural

beauty; and
WHEREAS, grants are available through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to fund studies and
programs for river protection: and
WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Land & Water Conservation Department believes it is advisable to apply for a
grant to address several issues relating to the Willow River: sediment loading in the Upper Willow River Watershed;
monitor various water quality parameters in the watershed; educate landowners on Best Management Practices; update fish
habitat assessment survey; and complete a SWAT model assessment on the watershed; and
WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Land & Water Conservation Department is qualified to carry out the
responsibilities of the river protection project as described in the grant application.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the St. Croix County Land & Water Conservation Department, over a three year
period, make a grant application for $15,200 of funds and assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
under the River Protection Grant Program; and
FURTHER, be it resolved that County Board Supervisor Arthur Jensen is authorized to act on behalf of the St. Croix
County Land & Water Conservation Department to: submit an application to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
for financial aid for river protection purposes; sign documents; and take necessary action to undertake, direct, and complete
an approved river protection grant project; and
FURTHER, be it resolved that the St. Croix County Land & Water Conservation Department will meet the
obligations of the river protection grant project, including timely publication of the results, and, along with the federal
Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Upper Willow River Rehabilitation District, provide the 25% in -kind
contribution toward this project; and
FURTHER, be it resolved that no County funds be expended in regard to this project.
