PERSONNEL COMMITTEE MEETING
Date: February 1, 2001 Location: Government Center,
Hudson
The Personnel Committee meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. by Chairman Gerald
Peterson. Members present: Peterson, Ralph Swenson, Art Jacobson, Julie Speer. Absent: Mary
Louise Olson. Also present: Debra Kathan.
Moved (Speer, Jacobson) and approved to accept the agenda with an additional item:
developing agenda items for future meetings. The next meeting was scheduled for February 27
at 8:30 a.m. Moved (Jacobson, Swenson) and approved to accept the minutes of the January 8
and 23 meetings.
Motion (Speer, Swenson) to go into closed session per WI Stat. 19.85 (1) c and e for the
purpose of reviewing labor negotiations regarding the Human Services Union - Professionals.
Roll call vote: all aye; moved into closed session at 8:35 a.m. Moved (Speer, Jacobson) and
approved to come out of closed session at 9:38 a.m. Moved (Speer, Swenson) and approved to
authorize labor attorney Steve Weld to submit a certified final offer to arbitration on behalf of the
County. This would be regarding the Human Services Union - Professionals (social workers).
Swenson suggested a listing of future agenda items for short and long -range planning.
The Committee brain - stormed ideas related to general personnel concerns. The next meeting
will focus on Performance Evaluations — specifically the instrument, the process, and expectations
for the procedure. Future issues for review include, in priority order: job descriptions, position
administration, wage compression, negotiations (evaluation of past procedures, planning future
strategies), reclassifications, personnel handbook updates.
Moved (Jacobson, Speer) and approved to adjourn at 10:30 a.m.
