RESOULTION FOR SHORT TERM DETENTION
RESOLUTION .„2
WHEREAS, Chapter 938.534 of the Juvenile Justice Code allows the use of short term
detention for placement in a secure detention facility or in a non - secure custody for up to
72 hours; and
WHEREAS, short term detention can be utilized if the juvenile has been adjudicated
delinquent; and
WHEREAS, the juvenile's caseworker or any other person authorized to provide intake
or dispositional services for the Court may, without a hearing, take the juvenile into
custody and place for up to the 72 hours as an immediate intervention; and the juvenile's
caseworker may also take the juvenile into custody and place the juvenile in a place of
non - secure custody for not more than 30 days as a crisis intervention.
WHEREAS, the juvenile must be informed and understand that 72 hours placement may
occur while alleged violations and appropriateness of a sanction are being investigated or
for a violation of supervision conditions and that the juvenile is informed and understands
the 30 day crisis intervention possible placement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the St. Croix County Board of
Supervisors authorizes the use of short term detention (72 hour hold) and 30 day crisis
intervention placement in non - secure custody for youth that are adjudicated delinquent
and ordered to intensive supervision. The utilization of the short term detention and 30
day crisis intervention shall be limited to the established procedures of the Department
and by order of the Court.
