HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1999 (33) CENSUS 2000 RESOLUTION Resolution No. 3 3 St. Croix County, Wisconsin WHEREAS, on April 1, 2000 the U.S. Bureau of the Census will conduct the decennial census to determine the nation's population and how it is distributed; and WHEREAS, the basic reason for the census is to apportion representation among the states in the U.S. House of Representatives; and WHEREAS, this census is important to Wisconsin because it will determine whether Wisconsin retains its nine seats in the House of Representatives or loses one seat; and WHEREAS, the census also affects representation in State and local government, funding of community programs and services, and allocation of state shared revenue; and WHEREAS, recognizing the significance of this census to Wisconsin, St. Croix County desires to work with the U.S. Bureau of the Census in a public awareness campaign to inform the residents of the County of the census and encourage participation in the census; and WHEREAS, St. Croix County believes that a public awareness campaign should include: cooperating with the cities, villages, and towns to coordinate this effort; encourage school districts to educate students and parents about the census through its curriculum and newsletters; encourage community organizations (churches, charitable groups, civic groups) to publicize the census to its members; enlist businesses to promote census participation through advertisements, promotional materials and displays, and other public awareness activities; and encourage residents to apply for census jobs. THEREFORE, be it resolved that the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors declares its support of and participation in the 2000 census. Dated: 1 I'M STATE OF WISCONSIN ST.
