RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ST. CROIX COUNTY
LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTM ENT TO APPLY FOR A
2012 - LAKE MANAGEMIENT PLANNING GRANT

St. Croix County, Wisconsin
WHEREAS, Lake St. Croix, a portion of the St. Croix River south of the
Hudson bridge, is an important resource used by the public for recreation and
enjoyment of natural beauty; and
WHEREAS, the protection and management of the Lake St. Croix watershed
area is critical and lake research activities are vital to the protection of water quality
and the ecosystem of the lake; and
WHEREAS, Long Pond Bay, an 18-acre bay of Lake St. Croix, plays a critical
role in how upland sediment is deposited and ultimately transported to the lake; and
WHEREAS, the Land and Water Conservation Department seeks authorization
to apply for a $10,000 grant to sponsor a research study by the Minnesota Science
Museum, Watershed Research Station to determine the source, composition and rate
of sediment accumulation in Long Pond Bay.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of
Supervisors that the Land and Water Conservation Department is authorized to
request $10,000.00 from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources under the
Lake Management Planning Grant Program, to sponsor a research study in 2012
relating to the protection and management of Long Pond Bay of Lake St. Croix.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Robert Heise, Director of the Land and
Water Conservation Department, is authorized to act on behalf of St. Croix County to
submit an application to the Department of Natural Resources for a $10,000.00 Lake
Management Planning Grant Program grant to sponsor the research study, and to take
necessary action to organize and administer the study if the grant is received.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the St. Croix County Land and Water
Conservation Department shall comply with state rules for the Lake Management
Planning Grant Program, may perform force account work, and shall comply with the
terms of the grant.

Explanation:
The LWCD is seeking approval to submit a WDNR - Large Lake Planning grant for Long Pond. (An 18-acre
bay, south of Hudson along the St. Croix River) The grant value is $10,000 with an equal or greater
match coming from the St. Croix Watershed Research Station. The LWCD responsibility will be to apply,
submit and administer the grant.
