ST. CROIX COUNTY VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK

WHEREAS, the personal safety of people living in the United States
is a top priority for both policy makers and the American
public; and
WHEREAS, 36.8 million Americans are victimized in the United States
each year, and of those, 9.1 million are victims of violent
crime; and
WHEREAS, when one man, woman or child in America is harmed by
crime, all Americans are touched by the devastating results;
and
WHEREAS, our nations's victims' rights discipline has contributed
enormously to crime prevention, victim assistance, and
community safety; and
WHEREAS, crime victims and those who serve them are a significant
force for positive changes that have resulted in improved
victims' rights and services, and laws that truly promote
justice for all; and
WHEREAS, during 1998 National Crime Victims' Rights Week, the
myriad good deeds and important work of crime victims and
their advocates deserve our nation's recognition and respect;
and
WHEREAS, during the week of April 19 to 25, 1998 and throughout the
year, our county joins together to celebrate "Victims' Rights:
Right for America ";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the St. Croix County Board
of Supervisors designates the week of April 19 to April 25,
1998, as St. Croix County Victims' Rights Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the St. Croix County Board of
Supervisors reaffirms its commitment to address victims'
rights and criminal justice issues during 1998 St. Croix
County Crime Victims' Rights Week and throughout the year.
