St. Croix County, Wisconsin
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is proposing to remove
the Mound Park Damn in Willow River State Park; and
WHEREAS, the dam is a valuable resource to the County, providing a warm water
fishery to residents and visitors, attracting tourists, and perpetuating important wetlands; and
WHEREAS, a majority of area residents oppose removal of the dam; and
WHEREAS, the purchase by the DNR in the County of other wetlands is not
justified when there is already established wetlands behind the dam - -the DNR should
maintain what it already has and not acquire more land.
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that the
Mound Park Dam and the precious resources it created and perpetuates be saved;
FURTHER, be it resolved that the costs established by DNR for repairs,
maintenance and /or removal be subject to an independent audit to verify DNR's estimates
before any final decision is made on the dam's fate.
