Resolution No. 5 (95)
St. Croix County, Wisconsin
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Legislature is considering legislation to change the
method of valuing farmland by its use value; and
WHEREAS, this valuation change would likely result in decreased property
valuations for farmland in developing areas; and
WHEREAS, this change will lead to a significant change in the assessment of
property taxes within Saint Croix County and its local taxing jurisdictions;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the Saint Croix County Administration
Committee request the Wisconsin Department of Revenue provide the County with
projections of the bill's potential impact sufficiently prior to passage so the County may
provide meaningful input; and
THEREFORE BE IT ALSO RESOLVED the Saint Croix County Administration
Committee request such legislation include a recalculation of shared revenues following re-
assessment and a payback of some of the tax benefits if the farmland is developed.
