REQUEST FOR A NEW STATE PRISON

St. Croix County, Wisconsin
WHEREAS, the attached copy of a resolution from Forest County, Wisconsin
requests that Forest County be considered as a site for a possible new state prison; and
WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Finance Committee recommends support of Forest
County's request;
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that it
supports Forest County's request to be considered as a site for a possible new state prison.
FURTHER, be it resolved that the County Clerk forward a copy of this resolution
to Governor Tommy Thompson, State Senator Alice Clausing, and State Representatives
Sheila Harsdorf, Harvey Stower and Al Baldus.

Resolution offered by ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Forest County, Wisconsin, That
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Committee has learned that the
State of Wisconsin is considering the construction of another prison
somewhere within the State, since the Wisconsin present prison system is
overcrowded; and
WHEREAS, there are no State prison facilities located in the northern
part of the State, with existing prison facilities spread evenly across
the southern portion of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, Forest County would be an ideal location for such a facility
taking into account available land and available work force; and
WHEREAS, the construction and operation of such a facility would be
an enhancement to the local economy, thereby providing the benefit to the
citizens of Forest County and, ultimately, to the State of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Committee is convinced that the
Forest County Board of Supervisors would work together with any State,
Agency, and that the Board would be willing to retain any reasonable
request in order to facilitate and /or maintain such prison facility
within Forest County; and
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Committee requests that the
Governor and State Representatives be notified of Forest County's inter-
est and willingness to assist in the construction and operation of a
prison facility within Forest County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Forest County Board of
Supervisors hereby request that the Governor and State legislature
consider Forest County as a possible site for a future prison, with the
understanding that the Forest County Board of Supervisors would cooperate
in any reasonable fashion, i.e. furnishing adequate and suitable land,
in order to facilitate the selection of a suitable site and the erection
of a facility at the lowest possible cost.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a true and correct copy of this
Resolution upon its adoption be forwarded to Governor Thompson, Repre-
sentative Serrati, State Senator Breske, and all County Board Chairmen
within the State of Wisconsin.
