RESOLUTION ADOPTING A NEPOTISM POLICY
FOR COUNTY BOARD SUPERVISORS AND THEIR RELATIVES

St. Croix County, Wisconsin
WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors strives to maintain high moral
and ethical standards of its members; and
WHEREAS, an element of that goal is helping supervisors avoid conflicts between
their personal interests and their public responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, the Administration Committee recommends the creation of a nepotism
policy that would apply to supervisors and their relatives;
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that
Article VI of the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors Rules and By -laws be amended by
creating the following:
Section B. Nepotism.
1. Nepotism is favoritism shown to a relative in the employment of a person to
a County position. In order to avoid nepotism or the appearance thereof, the
following policy is adopted and applies to supervisors and /or their relatives.
2. Relative means wife, husband, son, daughter, mother, father, brother, brother -
in -law, sister, sister -in -law, son -in -law, daughter -in -law, mother -in -law, father -
in -law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, step - child, step - parent and grandparent, or
a person who is living with a supervisor as a household in a committed
relationship.
3. No relative may be employed by the County in a department that is
supervised or could otherwise be directly influenced by a Board committee of
which the supervisor is a member.
4. No supervisor may participate in the employment process if a relative is an
applicant under consideration.
5. No supervisor may influence a County employee or other supervisor in an
appointment or hiring process on behalf of a relative.
6. A supervisor who violates this policy may be sanctioned by the County Board
or County Board Chair.
