ST. CROIX COUNTY, WISCONSIN
WHEREAS, the State Elections Board has held a public hearing
to gather information in anticipation of possibly revoking ap-
proval for the use of punch card voting systems; and
WHEREAS, the revocation concept arose because of allegations
that numberous ballots from a recent 1st Congressional District
election and a 20th Senate. District primary were not counted; and
WHEREAS, it is felt that these voter errors could also be made
with lever machines, an optical scan system using a central count
procedure or with paper ballots; and
WHEREAS, the County Clerk, Municipal Clerks and the majority
of voters in St. Croix County are well satisfied with the punch
card voting system that has been in use since 1988; and
WHEREAS, the cost of a replacement electronic voting system
would be as much as $90,000 which would have a severe impact on
the taxpayers of St. Croix County and equipment and supplies on
hand would be of no value.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of
Supervisors that it go on record as supporting the continued use
of the punch card voting system.
