DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WEIGHT SCALE STAFFING
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has made a
significant investment in the construction of a new weigh scale
located in St. Croix County and
WHEREAS, that significant investment of public tax dollars was made
with the intent to enforce safety regulations and weight
restrictions on the highway system throughout the area and
WHEREAS, the current level of staffing is significantly below the
proposed level of staffing for the facility and
WHEREAS, the level of staffing is grossly inadequate to provide an
effective, efficient level of coverage regarding the regulation of
weight restrictions and safety issues and
WHEREAS, the ineffective staffing and operation of this scale
allows for the increased likelihood of overweight vehicles
throughout the area and
WHEREAS, an increase in unregulated overweight vehicles will cause
significant damage and deterioration to, not only the State Trunk
System, but the County Trunk and local road system throughout the
area,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the St. Croix County Board of
Supervisors and the St. Croix County Transportation Committee
strongly encourages and urges the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation to not only fully staff but increase staffing at the
Hudson weigh scale to provide for an effective and efficient level
of operation and regulation, thereby utilizing the public
investment in the scale in a manner that is consistent and
beneficial with the intent. This level of staffing should be
consistent with other scales throughout this area. This would
provide for a much increased level of operation from the existing
levels, thus protecting and preserving the public investment in the
infrastructure throughout the area.
