WHEREAS, co►icern exists that the risk of persons intending to do harm with
weapons brought into government buildings is increasing; and
WHEREAS, federal courts have upheld the authority of governmental units to search
persons entering government buildings if the search is not unreasonably intrusive on a
person's liberty; and
WHEREAS, a search policy can be used selectively (when circumstances may
indicate possible danger) or continuously (during all times a building is open to the public);
and
WHEREAS, the Public Protection Committee recommends the search policy
attached hereto be adopted for use at the Government Center and used selectively;
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that the
attached search policy be and is hereby adopted for use at the Government Center and used
on a selective basis.
FURTHER, be it resolved that the following notice be posted at every entrance to
the Government Center available for public use:
NOTICE
ANY PERSON ENTERING THIS BUILDING
OR A COURTROOM MAY BE SEARCHED
FOR PUBLIC SAFETY REASONS.
