WHEREAS, 1990 real estate taxes assessed by the Town of Cady against property
of Soldiers of Jesus Christ, Inc. were not paid by the Soldiers of Jesus Christ, Inc. and were
settled by St. Croix County with the Town of Cady in the amount of $3,226.84; and
WHEREAS, based on an interpretation of a 1991 St. Croix County Circuit Court case
by Corporation Counsel involving the Soldiers of Jesus Christ, Inc. and its tax exempt status
it was decided that the 1991 real estate taxes assessed against the Soldiers of Jesus Christ,
Inc. were illegal and were charged back to the Town of Cady by the County; and
WHEREAS, Corporation Counsel has concluded his interpretation of the Circuit
Court decision may be incorrect; and
WHEREAS, the Finance committee recommends rescinding the charge back to the
Town of Cady until the Town of Cady assessor can determine the real estate tax status of
Soldiers of Jesus Christ, Inc.;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors
that the charge back as illegal taxes to the Town of Cady in the amount of $3,226.84 be
rescinded and a check for that amount be issued to the Town of Cady.
