Yet Dear Mr. Schumaker: Per your request, an on-site soil determination was completed for this site on July 9, 2004. The current owner, Bruce Erickson, wanted confirmation that a POWTS could be designed as part of preparing a Certified Survey map. Bruce Erickson accompanied me to the site and we dug hand borings in the vicinity of your test pits #1, #2 and #3. Although the descriptions for B2 & B3 were found to be accurate, B 1 may be in question. We dug a boring near a test pit that was approximately 120 ft. north of B3 and found less than A+4" conditions. However, the test pit locations shown on your site plan did not match the scale (1"=40 ft.) so we may have been north of B 1. The general location of the tested area on the proposed lot will provide adequate room for design of a mound wastewater treatment system to meet setbacks required in Comm 83.43-1. However, the following items need to be completed before the soil report can be accepted for use in the design of a mound POWTS: 1. All of the borings for this site must be documented even if the do not meet A+4" minimum requiremen s an must e s own on the site plan. There were more test pits on the site than the four described in your report. Without Mr. Erickson's help, I could not be 100% sure that I was evaluating the correct test pits. This will provide the designer and POWTS installer essential information on the recommended location for the mound. 2. Measure and document the loc f all borings. The distance between boring B2 and B3 was approximate y 0 feet and from B3 to B4 approximately 35 ft. The borings are drawn on your site plan using 1" = 40 ft. scale, which conflict with measurements taken during the on-site evaluation. I recommended that Mr. Erickson have an additional boring done south of B3 to lengthen the tested area and allow for a mound design that is long and narrow (100 ft.), with a lower linear loading rate to compensate for the A+6" conditions. 3. You must ' m some reference point and/or permanent ature. The site plan must give a measured distance from 30 Avenue, stance from the proposed east lot line, and the existing fence lines. This information will help identify where the system should be installed. 4. The benchmarks are nails on young trees that may be damaged by cattle currently pastured on the site. Please re-establish benchmarks on the proposed CSM lot line and provide distances from the proposed lot corner, the road, or other relatively permanent feature. The surveyor has a stake on the east lot line in preparation for CSM approval. Please amend the soil evaluation report with the above items and resubmit the original to the zoning depar tmen or use m e M a r 1 process. Mr. Erickson is aware that the on-! a soi verification ee c arged by the county is $100, which should be paid prior to application for a sanitary permit.
