ST. CROIX COUNTY PUBLIC PROTECTION COMMITTEE MEETING
Friday, June 8, 2012, 8:00 AM

The Public Protection meeting was called to order at 8:00 AM by Chairman Roger Larson.
Roll Call: PRESENT: Roger Larson, Ron Kiesler, Andy Brinkman and Dave Ostness.
ABSENT/EXCUSED: Joe Hurtgen
STAFF PRESENT: County Administrator Patrick Thompson, Sheriff John Shilts, Chief Deputy Scott
Knudson, Corporation Counsel Don Gillen, District Attorney Office Manager, Cathy Halverson, Victim
Witness Coordinator Pam Bellrichard and Recording Secretary Janet Smith.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes from the May 11, 2012 meeting were approved by Chair Larson
BUSINESS ITEMS:
Financials: Sheriff reported financials reflect the expense of the new squad vehicles. The revenues
appear out of balance due to the pending sale of the old vehicles.
Bass Lake Rehabilitation District and Town of Erin Prairie Contract: Sheriff Shilts apologized to the
committee for having these items on the agenda. Administrator Thompson has the authority to make
decisions and approve these contracts. Sheriff Shilts briefly explained the request from Bass Lake for a
part-time water patrol. The Town of Erin Prairie is having difficulties enforcing ordinances and would
like to have help from the county. The County Sheriff's office cannot enforce township ordinances
without a signed contract between the Sheriff's Office and the township. Discussion on current contracts.
Cathy Halverson from the District Attorney's office reviewed the department's duties,
responsibilities, staffing, budget and grant dollars. Pam Belhichard reported on the status of current and
future VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) grant.
ADJORNMENT: Meeting was adjourned at 8:32 AM by Chairman Roger Larson
