It is my opinion that the soil conditions are not suitable for a mound system utilizing A+4 criteria. ` Redox features were observed in the A-horizon at CST B2 and immediately below the A-horizon at CST B-3. CST B-2 00-11" 7.5YR 3/4 sl w/7.5YR 4/6 Fe Conc along root channels. 11-22" 7.5YR 4/4 sl w/c3f-d 7.5YR 5/6 and 6/3 rmfs Estimated highest level of saturation is 0" Areas with redox features in the A-horizon are not acceptable for mound systems unless a soil saturation determination using observation pipes monitored during a normal spring season proves that there is at least 6-inches of unsaturated soil. On the other hand, additional soils work may define a possible area in which to conduct an interpretive determination pursuant to Comm 85.60(2), Wis. Adm. Code. An additional onsite verification would be appropriate should this second option be chosen.
