Grabau Name and Address: Bernard Seidling PO Box 3006 Eau Claire, WI 54702-3006 (800) 386-7969 An onsite soils verification was conducted at the above referenced site as per district policy for all sites with less than four inches of unsaturated soil below the bottom of the A horizon. The intent of this investigation is to confirm initial observations by the certified soil tester (CST) relating to the presence or absence of redoximorphic features in the A horizon and subsoil: In-situ soil texture, structure, and consistence factors were also reviewed as they relate to wastewater application rates. Other site conditions such as percent and direction of slope, landscape position, land surface contour length, and surface water hydrology may also be noted and their effects are factors considered in the recommendations and conclusions portion of this report. A typical soil profile could be described as follows: T-1 00-06" 10YR 3/3 sil, 2mgr, mfr, cw. 06-11" 10YR 3/3 sil, 2msbk parting to 2mpl, mfr, cw. 11-13" 10YR 4/4 sil, 2mpl, mfr, aw w/f2f 10YR 4/6 rmfs. 13-17" 10YR 4/4 sil, 2msbk, mfr,w/common 10YR 6/4 silt coats on peds and f2d 7.SYR 5/6 8~ 5/3 rmfs. Recommendations for this site include the possible use of a mound system designed to overcome limitations of a high level of seasonal soil saturation and slow permeability present in the subsoil. A soil saturation determination pursuant to Comm 85.60 must be completed by a CST and approved by the department to certify that this site has at least 6 inches of soil free of saturated conditions for seven or more consecutive days. Should a mound design be pursued for use at this site, the linear loading rate should not exceed 4.5 gpd/ft and the basal wastewater application rated should not exceed 0.3 gpd/ft (even if the platy structure is plowed to realign it to blocky structure). At least 25 inches of sand lift must be used when applying septic tank effluent to the distribution cell. The longest portion of the mound must be orientated along the contour. The mound shall be constructed to divert surface water around the up slope mound toe as much as possible. If there are any questions regarding this report, please contact me. The intent of this investigation is to confirm initial observations by the certified soil tester (CST) relating to the presence or absence of redoximorphic features in the A horizon and subsoil. In-situ soil texture, structure, and consistence factors were also reviewed as they relate to wastewater application rates. Other site conditions such as percent and direction of slope, landscape position; land surface contour length, and surface water hydrology may also be noted and their effects are factors considered in the recommendations and conclusions portion of this report. The verification of soil conditions is in substantial agreement with the soil profile descriptions as presented by the CST on his Soil Evaluation Report dated 10/18/2003. Recommendations for this site include the possible use of a mound system designed to overcome limitations of a high level of seasonal soil saturation and moderate permeability present in the subsoil. A soil saturation determination pursuant to Comm 85.60 could be completed by a CST and reviewed by the department to certify that this site has at least 6 inches of soil free of saturated conditions for seven or more consecutive days. Should a mound design be pursued for use at this site, the linear loading rate should not exceed 4.5 gpd/ft and the basal wastewater application rated should not exceed 0.3 gpd/ftZ. The longest dimension of the mound must be orientated along the contour. At least 25 inches of sand lift must be used when applying septic tank effluent to the distribution cell. The mound shall be constructed to prevent ponding of surface water behind the concave portion of the mound structure. If there are any questions regarding this report, please contact me. L oy G.
